Me and an attorney in Houston have boners right now.

I've got my copy sitting in my bookshelf waiting on me. I'm finishing Ayn Rand's We The Living, which I foolishly neglected to read when I read the rest of her catalogue several years ago. I'm itching to to read How it Ended though. Bad.

The Informers, surprisingly, is my least favorite Ellis book, and I'm skeptical about how it's going to translate to the screen. That said, casting the Big Micker makes it must see material, and boner city.

From what I've ever read, The Informers were just a collection of his short stories that he wrote pre-Less Than Zero. I assume it was only released in form because Less Than Zero blew up, and they could milk the cash cow. Or BEE actually just did what I hypothesized on his own and made a shit ton of money. Regardless...

It opens up a lot of characters and characteristics from Rules of Attraction... which naturally lends itself to the Gliteratti thing... which I thought was going to be the next project, but seemed inevitably delayed.

Remember all those letters from The Informers that were just this chick's perpetual digression of Holywood decadence and disparity? I wonder who the movie will use to personify her.

And I assume that they're to Sean, since Clay is referred to in one short narrative and could very well be the kid whose dad flies him to Hawaii though he doesn't really want to go - considering they're the only 'relatively' moralistic characters throughout the series. Sean was just a more exciting version of Clay, who hated everyone for all the right reasons.

And Sean is the only true East Coast kid. So, yeah, that'd kind of make sense how the unknown addressee is alluded to have never replied to the girl's letters.

I really wonder how this shit can be faithful to the book, come to think of it.

The Informers was released because American Psycho blew up and people were desperate to have a new BEE novel, and Glamorama took him a century to write. From what I recall, the bulk of it was written pre-Less than Zero.

And yeah, the letter chapter is not going to translate to film very well at all (and you are right, they were written to Sean).

Gliteratti will likely never be released, nor will a film version of Glamorama, since Roger Avary holds the rights and his career is pretty much doomed because of his manslaughter charges.

The best bet now, and the book that I think would make a great movie, is Lunar Park

Supposedly there is a screenplay being written by a guy named Lane Shadgett for Lunar Park now. I know the book was picked up by a production company to be turned into a movie and I think BEE actually said that this guy was who he was ok with turning the book into a movie.

Roger Avary actually is dooming a few movies with his DUI/manslaughter charge as he also had the rights to a Wolfenstein movie of all things haha

I'm interested to see how The Informers plays out as alot was removed, most notably the vampires section. I'll still go see it if it plays here and end up buying the DVD as part of my BEE collection.

oh shit, I forgot about the BRIAN METRO WORLD TOUR '84 -- I'm praying that the Micker plays that role

I don't see Lunar Park being a very interesting or sincere film unless it's directed by Cronenberg, David Lynch or someone of that ilk.

edit: ...and I didn't know that Avary was in deep shit. He did good work on ROA, I thought.

Wow, finally got around to seeing this. I thought it was incredible. Definitely up there with Less than Zero. I was really impressed what they were able to do with it, considering the source material.

I saw it back in April.

I could hardly sit through it.

The only thing I really liked about the film was the perpetually pissed-off Rolex'd smaller kid who rollied a zip-loc full of J's in preparation of having to take a vacation with his dad.

Just a typical portrait of West Coast depravity that appeared to be slapped-together in a matter of weeks. As it deserved. And, as such, was unbearable... which retrospectively, I infer was the aim.

Someone also needs to retrieve all the Eames Loungers from hell and hook me up with one.

Mahogany or Cherry with black leather.

*sigh*
