i enjoyed the campaign action a little more in mw2 than in bfbc2 but i enjoyed the story more in bfbc2 (and actually laughed quite a bit). as for the multiplayer, obviously no one is going to sway you, but if you like more tactical team based games, go with bfbc2. if you want to be a lone wolf and not give a shit about anyone but yourself, go play mw2. no sane person however, can deny the annoying parts of all the dumb perks (akimbo shotguns? cmon), the campers and the glitchers that come with mw2. none of which are present in bfbc2.

That's pretty much the point I was making. MW2 is arguably the same as all other recent shooters in the 'current war game' category. BC2 at least puts a squad based, tactical spin on the genre.

Bioshock 2 was pretty damn good, working on Bayonetta now, then ME2. I still havent even gotten a chance to beat Uncharted 2 yet, and now with GOW3 and FF13 im gonna have plenty to play for the next few months.

Yeah no doubt about it. But I don't know if it's so rewarding because of it being such an odd commodity, because it actually is fulfilling to work as a team (no homo) or because it is a breath of fresh air from MW2. Whatever the case, it keeps me playing for a few good hours.

yeah the game is jam packed with easter eggs. got to love the "shark" i laughed my ass off when i grapped to it. and yeah, it does take a good hour to get used to the grapple chute combo but once you get the hang of it you're laughing. i stayed up in the air for a good 15 minutes just whipping around the town. since the guns are pretty underpowered at first and the heat is heavy as fuck i was eating shit and dying over and over until i realized that instead of dealing with them i could just bomb away and chill out on some roof top.

I love Westerns: Shane, Stagecoach, The Searchers, Rio Bravo, Unforgiven, Open Range. These are the immersive stories that I've always wanted to play in games. There have been some decent efforts, like Dead Man's Hand, Gun, Call of Juarez, and even Red Dead Revolver, but they all confine the player to narrow paths. What happened to the wide-open Wild West? Enter: Red Dead Redemption.

This is the largest world Rockstar has ever created. Can you quantify that? "It's big," a representative assured me.

The PAX East demo starts with a simple objective: meet up with a gravedigger named Seth, who needs your help, and head over to a nearby ghost town. So, I, as former outlaw John Marston, moseyed on out of the scrub brush and headed toward the graveyard, guided by the waypoint on my map, digging a spur into my horse. Giddyup!

It wasn't long before I decided to deviate from the dusty trail in search of misadventure. Misadventure in the form of animal skinning. (All of the animals in RDR are skinnable, and you can collect the skins to cash in at the furrier back in town.) I tried to creep up on a deer, but spooked it with my horse, and it quickly darted off. Several armadillos were easier target practice, and blasting buzzards triggered a "crackshot" challenge.

My first skinning experience, however, came when I shot a wild horse and took my knife to it. Marston crouched down in the frame of the screen, and I watched his knife plunge downwards, but the actual act of gore was kept just off-screen. After a few splatters of blood, the act was done and all that was left was a hideous corpse, peeled of its skin. Ewww.

I rode on past some normal folk and casually aimed my gun at one -- mostly because it's really, really hard not to shoot NPCs. As it turns out, he didn't like that much, and he pulled out his own gun and started shooting! I had to kill him to defend myself, but lost "honor" in the process.

The honor system in RDR will change what missions might be open. You can also become wanted by the law, and eventually posses will start chasing you down for the bounty on your head. Although you can ride into towns that have telegraph offices and pay off those bounties, the telegraph isn't everywhere yet.

Continuing on, I stumbled upon an overturned wagon, where a rogue treasure hunter was under fire from two outlaws who wanted his map. I could save him or aid the outlaws. I chose the third option: Shoot everyone. I got rid of the outlaws and scored a treasure map (which triggered a side mission) to investigate later.

I finally met up with Seth, who turned out to be quite cantankerous and crazy, and he led me to the ghost town, which turned out to be not so deserted. Moments after arriving, a gang of no good sons a you-know-whats opened fire on us. Luckily, I'd come prepared: rifle, shotgun, pistol, knife and lasso, which I could use to rope and pull enemies off balance. Moving in and out of cover, I began to pick them off. Activating the bullet-time "Dead Eye" ability, I was even able to disarm a target with a well-placed bullet to his gun hand.

A simple radar gave me a general sense of each bad hombre's location, as I searched in and out of the nearby buildings. Once I'd mopped up the place up, the demo was over.

Rockstar declined to provide any hints about the game's multiplayer, only teasing that it would be "surprising." I did learn that Marston will eventually have access to different outfits with bonus abilities, such as a fancy suit that increases his poker-playing ability. There are also many weapons in the game beyond the standard firearms that I was packing in the demo, which will include time period–appropriate automatics like the Mauser pistol. As for the gameworld, it features a dynamic atmospheric system with full day and night cycles, and you'll see heat shimmers, strong winds, thunderstorms and snow. The sun-blasted days are a startling contrast to the dark nights where campfires dot the desolate horizon.

Was it perfect? Not entirely. Red Dead Redemption is built on the same RAGE engine that GTA IV used and suffers from the same occasional frame rate issues that plagued that game, particularly when there is a lot happening on screen. There were slight NPC slowdowns and clunky horseback riding animations, too, which might be why the game was pushed from April to May.

Still, there's clearly a lot more of Red Dead Redemption to see, but just ambling through the wilds on horseback was enough to convince me that this is an adventure that I'll saddle up for when the game releases this May.

when re5 came out last year, a friend and i sat down and played straight through it and neither of us have touched it since. well, he told me yesterday that he was thinking of getting the gold edition to play the extra stuff and i said he could just borrow my copy and get the dlc bundle for $12 or whatever it is. he told me his live account ran out a couple weeks ago and he preferred a tangible copy of the game. so today he goes and buys the gold edition only to open it and find out that it comes with a code to download all the extra stuff and it's not on the disc. lol.

i've never not had gold so i don't know. i've heard a bunch of people bitching (or gloating) about how the ps3 version has the extra stuff on the disc and how you have to download the 360 version. this instance isn't really an issue but i'm wondering how microsoft and developers are going to handle inevitable storage limitations. there's already a few games in the works that are having to deal with it and some developers are getting pissed about it. gamers might not have a problem switching discs but if a developer refuses to take their game to the 360 because of it then we won't have any discs to switch.

If it still runs now, you can do the x-clamp mod and extend its life for pretty much ever (no real guarantee). Plus its older and easy as shit to mod so someone will want it. Don't expect more than $90 or $100 though.

Blur public multiplayer beta is up, pretty good stuff.

finally got to play a few races and it's pretty intense. takes a while to know which powerups are which but once you do there's definitely some strategy to it. some tracks are weaker than others, i prefer the fast pace tighter tracks.

the scoring system is pretty fair and i definitely want to keep playing so i can see more of the cars and whatnot. it's extremely hard to win at first with the beginner cars.

I loved those games and the 2 expansions, online were fun. One of the funnest games to play against the PC with your buddies. The cool thing is there was a slew of expansions people made themselves, extra guns, camos, and all kinds of cool shit. Ubisoft was cool about that.

I've put 35+ hours into it and have had no issues with the controls or aiming system. I'd like to see a cover system in the next version, but if you learn to use the zipline+dive technique you can make it through this one no issue.

Played through the first 3 missions of splinter cell last night, and while it is an improvement over the last one, it feels like they have really simplified the stealth aspects. I've also yet seen the ability to move/hide bodies, here's hoping that shows up in later levels.

im stuck on agency mission 5 in jc2 where you have to assassinate the 3 leaders at the 3 kings hotel. i cant even get past the first dude even with level 5 smg and grenades. i got fustrated as hell and just went and did some faction missions but i think i need to advance past that mission in order to continue unlocking shit since my meters arent going up whatsoever. either that or i've unlocked every mission and just have the agency ones to finish up

played the skate 3 demo for a bit today, 20 minute timer on it which is fine with me considering that the last games demo only had a 5 minute limit. i didnt know that jason lee was in the game. oh and hardcore mode is fucking...well hardcore. grinds arent magnetic and you dont get as much air with your land tricks. makes it much more realistic and interesting imo. the demo area is kinda meh'ish but the new hall of meat is pretty badass and its nice it doesnt take you out of the game like the last one

Mothership Zeta was pretty disappointing. The weapons were kinda cool but the enemies were lame and the missions themselves were boring and super linear. It wasn't a very good way to cap off the game. Aside from getting Broken Steel for the level cap and real ending, Point Lookout was the only DLC that was really essential.

And yeah, Fawkes was great. I had Star Paladin Cross at first and she was fucking useless. She'd get killed by stray mirelurks or yao guai almost as fast as Dogmeat would.

it's the only game i know of that handles a scale of map that huge and has no pop-in/framerate issues that i've seen so far. it's crazy seeing a 5000 foot mountain in the distance and parachute there with no lag or draw distance issues whatsoever. why can't GTA do this? hopefully red dead redemption handles this better and we don't have disappearing horses when you run a couple hundred yards away.

here's a story I heard from a close friend of mine who works at a pawn shop:

Kid comes in, buys a (broken) xbox from the shop. My buddy informs him that it doesn't work, and as such they will not offer a refund for it, so the sale is final. Kid comes in a few days later and my buddy informs him that he's SOL. The kid explains that he knows the item was sold as-is, but he fixed it, and he just wants back the $40 he paid for it because his mom won't let him keep it. My buddy turns it on, checks it out, and it works fine. Asks the kid how, and apparently his pops works for microsoft (which is not far from here) repairing Xboxes. Apparently, if it's just the standard RROD, it's just a soldering problem, so what they do is just wrap the Xboxes in a blanket and leave them on overnight. The heat build up w/o ventilation apparently melts the solder and usually fixes the problem. So, try that.

TLDR: wrap it in a blanket to prevent ventilation and leave it on overnight. No joke.

I've been repairing xboxes for a few months now. The trick is to use a heat gun or reflow machine to melt the solder, and then do the xclamp fix for a better connection. Havent gotten an xbox back yet after doing that.

Then again, these are basically temp fixes that will last about a year. Only do them if you voided the warranty, otherwise send it to microsoft

The first batch of games are going to be Special Edition that include some extra in game items and a soundtrack. so basically by pre-ordering you are getting that one for sure much like the first batch of battlefield bad company 2, just cause 2 and a shit ton of other games that don't really have a "limited edition" but a first run of games that have bonus stuff with it.

I just tried it out today, The story is not that clever but you can see they put some serious work into it.
visuals are awesome and it has a good atmosphere, but there is not much gameplay to be had.

i picked up skate 3 today, played it for a bit and its great as expected. the intro movie was pretty wtf until i understood what the hell was going on. anyways this will keep me busy till the 18th

asked the dude if he was going to have red dead early seeing as ive now got gow3, splinter cell and skate 3 off him days before the release and he pretty much laughed at me. he said that with a game like that he wouldnt get it any sooner than the day before release. but i dont understand why gow3 was on his shelf 5 days before the release? that was a pretty fucking big deal. anyways, he will have alan wake for me next thursday/friday so i'll grab that up for sure. i keep reading all these reviews and amdac now

rinsed bioshock in the last couple of days, just started on bioshock 2.

So a friend of mine has a banned console, he just bought a new one, and he wants to recover his gamertag since he downloaded tons of songs for rock band/guitar hero on his old profile.
The problem is that he opened this gamertag a few years back, and he can't even remember the email address he signed it to, the stoner that he is.
i realize there is a way to check this information via xbox live, but since his previous console is banned he can't go online.
we also tried transferring the profile using a memory unit, but alas, when copying it to the new console it displays the profile as "corrupt", and even though he can copy the profile, he can't see it on the list of profiles available to sign in with.
any ideas?

actually i read about a lot of people who recovered their gamertag and did not get banned, The ban takes effect when a modded drive is identified.
anyway, even if he doesn't want to recover the gametag he still has an option to transfer the licenses of his DLC purchases to another gamertag via the Xbox official site, but in order to do so he needs access to his older account. :/
