Great song. Bad video. Is Ilan Sharone any relation to Gil Sharone? That might be why they had him direct that piece of shit.
And Milk Lizard's video was pretty fucking bad too.

dep told me a story about their roadie getting pissed on by a chick in the street
and about ben whacking off on a girls doll and subsequently getting them chased by gypsies
probably bullshit
oh yeah videos are gay, fuck that dude off
At a show we played with them in Japan, we were setting our stuff up right before soundcheck. Me and Ken were jamming around and when the DEP guys came in, I decided to play a few riffs of theirs for the hell of it. Ben was on the side of the stage while I was playing Jim Fear and we chatted about how his fingering was different then mine on a certain section. I played a few other parts, then me, Ken and Mike started jamming and I kinda went off on my solo.
Afterwards, Ben said "Goddamn dude, your chops are fucking sick. I don't know if I can play like that". I said "But I just stand here. I could barely play an open E and do what you do."

Should "with" in this case be regarded as different from "in"? Was this common prp knowledge that we have a Candiria member here?

I know Tom knows and maybe a few other people. "With" is different from "in" in this case because I'm not an original member. I was Eric's replacement for the last group of tours Candiria did.

Please retitle thread "Candiria"
I always wondered how Carley's pants stayed up while he was jumping around so I asked a black friend if there was a secret. He said, "Naw, black people just got small waists and big ol' asses and dicks so ya pants can't go nowhere." Then he said, "Also, safety pins."
Thanks. Had John still been in the band, the show would've been 10x's better. We were severely limited in what we could play because of John's replacement. We had to stick to new songs and simple older stuff. I kept trying to teach him some of the more difficult songs, but he couldn't do it. It's the main reason we didn't get to do a headlining tour.
dc's story was the best, went from a fan on their board to touring with them. lived the fucking dream!

chuckbronson
05-22-2008, 12:42 PM
i do remember dc11 joining candiria .. i was lurking more than posting back then though
Tom's synopsis pretty much is the story.
But, to elaborate, I got to know the guys over the years at shows in Cali. I went to NY on what was supposed to be the last 2 shows of the tour that they had the accident on. Since I had my ticket, I went anyway and hung out with Ken and Carley a lot. I jammed with Ken and that went pretty well. I go back to NY to go to the comeback show and Eric asked if I'd setup an ebay store so they could sell merch. A month later I get an email from Eric asking if I could learn a set and do a few tours. His back was destroyed and he couldn't do another tour until he had back surgery and recovery time. I say "OH HELL YEAH" and I was out there the next week. I wasn't aware that John left the band until a few days before I left. I talked to Eric and Ken about the skills of the John's replacement and he said that I'd probably have to teach him quite a bit. My first days there, we went over the set and I tried going over songs like 300%, Mathematics and Constant Velocity. He had no idea what was going on. We go to our first rehearsal as full band and everything went pretty well. In between songs me, Ken and Mike would jam other Candiria riffs and freestyle jazz. We ended up rehearsing for about 4 hours due all the in between stuff. 3 days later, we hit the road. I finally talked the guys into playing Temple and Pull and we added those into the set right before the Stillborn festival. Eric had decided to quit right after back surgery, so I was playing with them with the knowledge that I was only a hired gun. Too bad I didn't know cause I'd have been able to make arrangements to stay in NY and join them fulltime. I don't think he told everyone. Just Carley and Ken and they didn't say anything.
As awesome as it was, it was somewhat tainted by not having John in the band and not being able to play some of my favorite songs, at least the fan side of me. As a player, getting to go on tour is always the shit and I was lucky as hell to tour with who I did. We did get to do Signs and Faction nightly, so that was great. After 6 months, their case was about to go to trial, so everything was put on hold. Since I didn't live in NY, they thought it would best to keep the band there so they could rehearse more. John rejoined and they only played 1 show with that lineup before Ken left. He wasn't feeling it anymore and had already moved to Cali. Me and Ken were talking about the tours and the state of the band right before he quit and had I lived there, we'd still be a band. Especially since John came back. Having me and John as guitarists would've been one sick fucking band. Things being as they were, Ken pretty decided he was done before they even recorded the last album.
Wow! Like Henry Rollins only never became famous (or ripped, I imagine).

What? I was genuinely impressed, Mr. Sensitive. I love Candiria and saw 'em every time they came to town, which was a lot 'cause they were always on tour before the wreck. There are worse folks to be compared to than the guy that sang Damaged II.

I went and caught the DEP show at The Metro the other night.
DEP absolutely slayed. It was by far the tightest and cleanest I've ever seen/heard them play.
I don't remember the exact order of the setlist.
-Panasonic Youth
-Fix Your Face
-Lurch
-Milk Lizard
-When Acting as a Particle
-Non Eye Gong (?)
-Sunshine the Werewolf
-Hot For Teacher
-43% Burnt (HOLY FUCK THE OUTRO WAS CRUSHING!!!!"
Yes, they played an amazing cover of "Hot For Teacher", and I was just smiling the entire time. Gil is solid as hell, leaps and bounds cleaner live than Chris in my opinion, and Jeff can shred.
Awesome show.
Oh yeah, and their intro music/noise was killer. They always have good intros.

I think they played about 30-35 minutes. Don't forget, they're on tour with 4 other bands. That being said, I think their set was on the better side of 35+...I might've left a song out.

gay gay gay deathcore myspace shit band
http://www.myspace.com/suicidesilence
cause they (along with other bands like whitechapel, job for a cowboy, etc, all of whom sound EXACTLY the same) get like a billion friends on myspace and pull off big first week sales, which in this fucked up world allows them to go out and headline on something like their second or third tours ever. suicide silence's first headline tour last year was with walls of jericho and a life once lost, both of which who have probably been around long before these assholes ever learned how to play their instruments. FUCK THEM ALL.

Some of you may have seen October tour dates posted for a tour we were to take part in. Due to circumstances beyond our control(no we're not breaking up so don't believe anything that might start floating around on the internet) we will not be taking part in that tour. We wish every other band on the tour well, and hope that it is a great success for them and for the people behind the scenes working hard to make it a great tour.

THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN guitarist Ben Weinman has denied online rumors that drummer Gil Sharone has quit the band.
"He didn't leave and we didn't kick him out," Weinman tells Kerrang! magazine. "He will be busy, though, working with his other band (STOLEN BABIES) a lot over the next year, so I am talking to other dudes both for DILLINGER possibilities and just for me to play with on other creative projects. We still may be touring and writing with Gil, though. Kinda in the air. No big drama though or anything."
Although nothing has been confirmed, drummer Marco Minneman (NECROPHAGIST, EPHEL DUATH) has reportedly indicated that he plans to work with THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN during the coming months. Raanen Bozzio, son of drumming legend Terry Bozzio, is also said to be a candidate for the job.

Bloodletting the new song featured on the Spylacopa debut EP due out this November is up in the myspace player... please give it a listen and add it to your page if you like it!!!
Some words about the song....
Bloodletting was originally written by Greg Puciato. When I heard the demo of the song I was blown away by the chorus. There were all these vocal layers of just screams that sounded like dying banshees. It was an inspiring new step forward for Spylacopa because before this the music we were writing for the project was based mostly on experimental ideas and sounds and a more unorthodox style of writing.
When we passed it off to Julie she just took the song to a whole new level with her eerie lyrics and disturbing vocal melodies. Jeff also played a great part in taking the song to new heights adding these incredible bass layers and textures. After that the whole thing just kind of came together in the mix by the man behind the curtain, Michael Barile. He did this thing in the bridge with one of Jeffs bass performances. Jeff was playing the part and theres a note that rings out and as hes recording the part he's reaching over to Jeffs bass and slowly down tuning the low bass string. It's just perfect for the part.. he tunes it so low it just slowly disappears into the mix.. -John

Dillinger Escape Plan’s Ben Weinman on Dropping off Suicide Silence Tour, Working with New Drummers, Upcoming DVD and Plans For Next Album (http://headbangersblog.mtv.com/2008/09/05/exclusive-podcast-dillinger-escape-plan-guitarist-ben-weinman-on-dropping-off-suicide-silence-tour-working-with-new-drummers-upcoming-dvd-and-plans-for-next-album/)
interesting things of note
- thinking of maybe doing 2 DEP records next time around, one more aggressive and one less
- said dropping of suicide silence tour had nothing to do with not wanting to play before them and was mostly scheduling conflicts with gil
- hung out with metallica at the kerrang awards and it seemed that kirk and rob were actually familiar with the band
- hung out with patton recently and discussed working together again

silly as it may be, how can you not say that they haven't compromised their sound for success after reading that.
besides, don't really matter who remixes lil wayne, that shit's the cancer of music and if you like it in any form, you're a fucking tool

what the hell does ben doing a remix have to do with compromising dillingers sound? two completely seperate things.

I was going to ask what ken schalk was doing these days... then found him and carley are in a christian rock/metal band hope kills fears. WTF!! that band sucks and I thought ken schalk was an atheist or at least along those lines.

..you are running through the jungles of Vietnam, with no shirt on, waist high in some leech infested water, machine gun strapped around your chest, and a red white and blue head band around your head. Imagine...you have the invincibility code turned on in your life, and waves of Charlie are pouring out of the jungle. My dick just got hard. Ire Works was a solid album. Personally, I wouldda wanted less ambient stuff, but when they came hard they brought it, and Horse Hunter's one of their best songs. I don't mind a band trying new shit out even if it's hit and miss(which I don't think it was in this case) as long as they don't forget what made em great.

12/01/09 BLOGZILLA....LUCKY DAY FOR YOU IF YOU ARE SMALL....
Category: Music (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.viewCategory&FriendID=13372776&BlogCategoryID=15)
Whoa whoa whoa....five seconds ago while I was selecting "Music" from the little blog category selector box thingy, I noticed a previously unforeseen category, a little something called "Goals, Plans, Hopes". What kind of happy horseshit category is that? Goals.....Plans.........Hopes? How about "Fairy Dust, Moonbeams, Unicorns" while we're at it? Let me tell you something. If you're online posting a blog under the "Goals, Plans, Hopes" category, it better go something like: "My goal is to not be hungry in the near future, I plan on getting a burrito, I hope my check card doesn't get declined", because if it's anything much more serious than that you're walking at a pretty fast clip down loser lane. For real. I wanna throw my computer across the room right now that's how worked up I'm getting thinking of how preposterous that category is. The type of people I imagine picking that category write things like "My dream is to save the whales....to ride one one day......that's what I would really like...to pet a dolphin and then give happiness and love to everyone and hugs and..." FUCK YOU. They also probably have little smiley faces and colored text and sound effects somehow in there too. There should be a blog category called "ASSHOLES" and those people should be limited to that category. If you are spending time writing about your hopes and plans and goals and dreams and candyland gobbly goop bullshit on myspace you should probably be re-evaluating the "plan" section of that equation.
Now that that's out of the way and I've put off an idiocy induced stroke for a few more days/hours/minutes and now firmly look like a crotchety old asshole, let me get to the meat of this happy fucking hello. If you're a little person....I mean anywhere from tiny to kinda small, then today is your lucky goddamned day, because we have leftovers. I'm not talking thanksgiving leftovers I'm talking awesomeness leftovers. Remember a few months ago when we put out that Metallica rip off design for the 82588 song, and only made them available on 82508? Well we made too many Youth/Girls Sizes and Men's Smalls. So if you're a small fry and missed out on the opportunity to grab one of these gems on the first go 'round then head on over to the main page and adorn yourself with greatness. If you need a visual refresher on what awesome looks like, it looks like this:
http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh290/DillingerEscapePlan/82588Mockup.jpg
When they're gone they're gone. Finished. Kaput. Forever. Other than that....as far as shirts are concerned, the Sick On Sunday design is coming up next(we only have Sick On Sunday, Lurch, Nong Eye Gong, and When Acting As A Wave left in the series), we'll get it out in a week or so, we're just tweaking some design specifics. For any questions about merch, like where's your order, how long it'll take, blah blah blah, go to our messageboard here (http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8vd3d3LnNtbm5ld3MuY29tL2JvYXJkL2ZvcnVtZG lzcGxheS5waHA/cz0yNjdhYTExMWMwM2NlNGFkOGM0NTM5MGEyMmVmNzZlOSZmPT I2Nw==) and click on the thread that's called "The Official Dillinger Merch Thread". Every question is answered, every concern eased, etc. We're doing this whole operation as DIY as possible to eliminate the impersonality of having to get this super cool shit from some mall bullshit or online store that also sells super lame shit like "I'm not a freak I'm just different than you" shirts or glow in the dark spiked collars or whatever the flying fuck. So yeah, order with confidence, and if you have questions about your order go to the thread and fire away. A primer to save you the trip: 82588 shirts have all been mailed, so if you don't have them you'll get them soon(I'm talking about you overseas people), and Party Smasher and Dead As History shirts are being pressed as we speak and will be going out promptly. The 82588 leftover shirts will literally mail out the day after you order them, since we already have them here.
Lets move on to some non DEP things for a while, this doesn't have to be all about us!
So CHECK THIS SHIT OUT. Ben, figuring that humans shouldn't be the only species representing the rock and fucking roll, has come up with the ingenious idea to make metal/punk/rock shirts influenced by bands and records....for dogs. This is like something that people that are high come up with that rules but that never really happens. "Dude, imagine if your dog walked into the room right now with a Master Of Puppets shirt on, except instead of Master Of Puppets, it said Master Of Puppies...". Except Ben isn't high, and he actually made them. Ben Weinman is like the hardcore Einstein. He never comes out and just holes up inside, except instead of being surrounded by test tubes and rulers and algebra and what not he's surrounded by obnoxious riffs and time signatures and usually ice cream sundaes and now shirts for dogs. Trust me when I say that nothing makes you smile or laugh every fucking time no matter how shitty your day is than seeing your dog walk into the room with a shirt on that says Black Shag or Master Of Puppies or Black Labbath or Def Sheppard. It's called Garmutt, go over to the site (http://blog.myspace.com/www.garmutt.com) he made for it and check it out if you have a dog and want that mother father to represent the power of the riff. For some reason now after seeing his dog shirts, whenever I hear Alice In Chains' "Them Bones" I think about how much I really wish Alice In Chains would have made dog biscuits called "Them Bones", I would have been so stoked to give them to my now dead beagle when I was in my grungey adolescence.

Barack? Yeah? Good job man. Moving acceptance speech. Did you see Oprah hanging on that poor dude's arm in the front row like it was a giant cheeseburger someone was trying to take away from her? I hope that guy writes a horror bestseller about how petrified he was by the fear that Oprah was gonna eat his arm right the fuck off during those few hours. But yeah.....Obama.....regardless of party or whatever....way to kick major ass. Everyone's proud. You are the walking personification of the American dream. Now don't fuck up or most of us are gonna feel like total idiots. Oh by the way, when we went all political on everyone for a minute with the whole Rock The Vote thing, we could go on their site and track how many people were registering from our link, and it was a fucking lot of you. So yeah! Be proud whether your guy won or lost. Now onto a more pressing matter....something that has been the topic of discussion over the last week or so among some of us.....the Axl Rose solo record I mean GNR record I mean whatever.
Can we talk about that record for a minute? No? Tough shit. I like it. There, I said it. I didn't like it at first but hear me out. It's not as good as Appetite, but as a whole I think it's better than Use Your Illusion...although the best songs on Chinese Democracy aren't as good as the best songs on Illusions. It's still, as far as mainstream rock releases go, about as good as you can ask for nowadays. It smokes Velvet Revolver and Godsmack and Hinder and whatever eles people have been into in the mainstream rock world lately, and unless Freddie Mercury rises from the grave or Chris Cornell shows up at Kim Thayil's house I'm not holding out hope for much better. That's not saying a whole lot I guess, but seriously some of the arrangements and songs and solos and vocals and whatever else are pretty good. Some of it sucks though. Figure that stuff out Axl. Maybe you can figure it out by calling 1-800-GETSLASHANDDUFFANDIZZYANDSTEVENFUCKINGADLERBACKAND WRITEAREALGUNSRECORDBEFOREONEOFYOUDIESANDITSTOOLAT E.
I know with all my 80's Metallica pole smoking you wanna know what I think about their new thing too. Again, not as good as the old records, but better than the last 15 years from them and there's some pretty nostalgic riffs lurking about on there. Some of the riffs are total Justice era riffs. A friend of mine told me that they went back and pulled all the Justice session notes, called Flemming Rasmussen, and got every piece of gear and tone settings and everything from the Justice record and basically tried as hard as they could to recreate that sound/feel. Admirable. Our old tour manager is tour managing that band "The Sword", who happens to be on tour with Metallica, so if you're at The Forum on the 17th I'll be the guy on the side of the stage playing nonstop air guitar. Shit Yeah indeed.
Back to DEP related news and notes to keep you as close to the inner circle as possible. We're writing, we've loosely set aside June and July 2009 for recording with Steve Evetts, and we're looking forward to/getting ready to absolutely rip in the new year. We've got Australia booked for late Feb/early March, and we'll more than likely be doing some stateside stuff as well around that time, maybe some US shows before we go down under, we'll see.
The self titled Spylacopa EP with myself, John LaMacchia from Candiria, as well as Julie Christmas from Made Out Of Babies/Battle Of Mice and Jeff Caxide from Isis, is out now. Go over to the Spylacopa myspace page(www.myspace.com/spylacopa (http://www.myspace.com/spylacopa)) to check it out and find out how to pick it up without STEALING IT ONLINE SOMEWHERE. You do realize that when you do that you basically take a big fat unlubed extra ribbed strap on and fuck us all in the ass with it don't you? I used to be way into the whole free downloading thing, because at first it was like yeah awesome free shit we've been paying too much for too long fuck the man blah blah! But now cd prices are reasonable and if it boils down to you not wanting a physical thing because you're only gonna listen on your computer or ipod anyway, at least go over to Itunes and pick the stuff up if you want to own it, it's a dollar per song over there for christ's sake. Intellectual property is still property you know? Think of it like this, if you had a restaurant(you can tell I'm hungry...all this talk of burritos, food, etc), and you sold food that was awesome and that you made yourself and spent shit tons of time on, and people were just pouring in and looting your place and taking everything out of it for free, just stealing everything, would you keep making it? Would it somehow be your fault? What's the solution...to make better food? To somehow give people an incentive to pay for it? Fuck that. You would kill them, or at least beat them, or at the very least criminally charge them. Imagine if you came to our show and came up to our merch table and tried to run off with a cd or shirt. I or our merch guy would run you down and brain you. But nobody would ever do that. People only steal music because it's not a physical thing. It's becoming a tragedy thats making it very hard to be an adult making real music in this day and age, and honestly I'd like to think that if I met each and every one of you in person and shook your hand and talked to you, you would know that I wouldn't steal something from you, and I would like to think that you wouldn't steal from me. I don't give a shit about Britney Spears' new single or Miley Cyrus' new album, because I'm sure they view their fans like a target audience, they are products of their record companies just like the products they are trying to sell, nothing more than a marketing face for a single that's as memorable as it is long. They would never hang with the commoners so to speak, and kick it with their fans, at least not without secretly having to swallow their own vomit from having to waste their time talking with them. We keep it as real as it fucking gets in everything that we do, and try to break down every possible wall in between us and you without all living on Awesome Island together. I see the counts from torrent sites and shit, and it's depressing, and I hope hope hope to god that it's the people on the fringe stealing the music we make, whether its Dillinger or other projects, and that its not the people that write to us on here, and talk to us after shows, people who I've looked in the eye from the stage and shared a moment of mutual respect with, or given a hug after the show, or sang along with in a sweaty hell hole somewhere. I know for a fact that if you saw me stealing from you you would be pretty fucking disappointed. Do your part and don't be that guy, unless you can honestly say that you would walk into my place with no remorse and steal shit from me and wouldn't care if I did the same. If you can say that then fuck it go ahead and download it.
I wish you guys could hear the new stuff. Next time we make a video blog, we'll sneak some demo snippets into the background for everyone to pick at, I promise.
Oh, yeah, just out of curiosity...what's everyone's favorite Dillinger song? Is there a song you wish we would play live that we don't ever seem to? I'm curious...we've got a lot of different shit out now and it's interesting to hear what you have to say about it all. You guys hear a lot of our opinions about everything under the sun but we don't get to hear yours too much....we're trying to make this whole blogging process a bit more interactive, because we actually DO give a shit and feel a kinship with our fans and don't just think of you guys/gals as soundscans or ticket sales like I was saying before, so with that in mind I am envisioning these blogs kinda turning into little mini message boards in the comments, a roundtable so to speak, so if you say something relevant pertaining to our blog posts, check back on here later, we may comment on your comment.
Talk to you all soon....we love you guys, etc....and it takes a lot for us to say that because it makes us feel all sensitiiiiiiive and shit inside.
PS.....I had every intention of putting this blog in "Goals, Plans, Hopes" but just couldn't bring myself to do it.

Anyway, I will have an extra if anyone wants to buy it.

its retarded that you cant realize that these guys joke around 99% of the time. granted im a huge loser and i doubt anyone reads/listens to the amount of interviews i do, so maybe thats it, but these guys are rarely serious, and if you have ever heard them talk about the bands they worship, they clearly dont think they are even at the same level. just cause they make a shirt doesnt mean they do. my point of it being limited edition and it being part of a series, is that their ego probably isnt what drove them to make the shirt. its not like they sat around and said "shit, were better than metallica, lets make a shirt". they had an idea to make a shirt for every song, and they came to that song, so what the fuck else are they supposed to do for the shirt?

Eh, I dunno, I read a lot of their shit, too, and they're constantly talking shit about other bands. You say they're just joking around, but it makes me think of the phrase "half in jest, whole in earnest." They're saying shit jokingly, but you can tell it contains elements of seriousness/truth.

Dillinger Escape Plan have been in the news recently as drummer Gil Sharone departs and rumours abound that the band have hired Billy Rymer from The Rivalry as his replacement. Rock Sound got in touch with guitarist Ben Weinman to ask what was going on.
''I don't want to say to much about the new guy,'' Weinman admitted when probed on the band's new drummer. ''He is kind of this secret weapon and we are excited about the fact that he doesn't care about running around promoting himself. He is pretty unknown and got the gig over like thirty ridiculously sick drummers. Some of which are pretty well known. He has very young nipples though I must say, makes me jealous.''
However, the guitarist was clear to set the record straight with regards to the band's departing drummer Sharone. ''I would like to clear up the reality of that situation,'' he continues. ''It seems everyone is trying to play up that we can't keep members in this band. Gil didn't quit Dillinger and there is no animosity. We are still friends and were talking about a project we are going to work on when we both have more time yesterday.
''The fact of the situation is that he both didn't like a lot of touring and felt guilty he had gone over a year without really giving his band that he started with his twin brother much attention. He wanted to move forward in writing and doing selected shows with Dillinger but asked if we would be interested in getting a touring fill in for when he couldn't do it. We decided to go another rout and he was understanding of that. That is the reality of the situation.''http://rocksound.tv/news/article/dillinger-guitarist-comments-on-sharones-departure

He's fucking badass because he plays his drums like a guitar. It's just fast, insane and flowing.
Schalk(sp?) took jazz chops and molded them into a hip-hop & hardcore hybrid. I dunno if that crash affected his playing, I haven't heard him since, but I'd still put him up there in the Gaad-echelon.

in my opinion, technically from an ability standpoint:
haake > Pennie > Schalk
however, my own enjoyment says:
Pennie > haake = Schalk

Their styles are so different that it's tough to compare. I can't imagine Haake playing Pennie's parts, although I'm sure he could pull it off.

I've seen every drummer in this thread live... and I'm including Vinnie & Neil Peart in this too. But I've never been knocked the fuck back as hard as when I watched Gene Hoglan with SYL (opening for Meshuggah in a bowling alley, incidentally). That fuckin' guy must be 7'1" 480 lbs but he played the whole set, at a speed I never thought humanly possible, without breaking a stick or a sweat.
He might have stretched and yawned during "All Hail the New Flesh," but like I said, it was like watching oncoming traffic under a strobe light.

SURPRISE!!!!! EAST COAST USA SHOWS!!!!
Current mood: excited
Hey everyone, happy belated new years and holidays and what not. Lets get right down to it. We're playing a few shows IN A FEW WEEKS on the East Coast! BAAAM! That's right! Bet you didn't expect that when you woke up this morning. Little band, you may have heard of 'em, called The Dillinger Escape Plan, about to bulldoze your fucking town. You might wanna show up. We're probably gonna play five or so in all, but the first three are confirmed, and it's the three cities that I like to call the Triforce Of Godliness. The Holy Trinity of Dillinger cities. The three major hometowns. It goes a little something like this:
THURSDAY FEBRUARY 5TH - PHILADELPHIA - THE BARBARY
FRIDAY FEBRUARY 6TH - BALTIMORE - THE OTTOBAR
SATURDAY FEBRUARY 7TH - NEW YORK CITY - THE STUDIO @ WEBSTER HALL
We'll probably be getting New Jersey and/or Boston or some other stuff lined up too, but these initial three pretty much represent the hometown sweep for us. I'm gonna keep adding to this blog as more shows get confirmed, and more info comes into focus about openers, ticket info, etc, so keep hitting refressssshhhh.
We haven't played headlining DEP shows in these places in over a year, and haven't played at all....period.... in six months, so it'll be like a starving blood thirsty lion coming out of a cage.
Oh yeah....they'll also be our new drummer's first shows. Kiiiiiiindof a big deal. You may have heard rumors or whatever about our drummer situation. Come see for yourself.
These three shows, especially the Philly show, are in pretty small rooms so they're gonna be packed. So don't sleep on tickets. I'll get some direct ticket links in here soon. Sooooo stoked to see all of you.

someone report on these shows.
Hey you fucking crybabies. It’s Greg. I heard there was a small shitstorm brewing in here so I wanted to come address this merch issue with everyone myself so here I am. A few things.
Just kidding about the crybaby remark, I’d be irritated too! Here’s the latest. 82588 shirts and Black Bubblegum shirts were all sent. I know because I MAIL THEM. I don’t print them, I don’t sew them(I think Asian Steve’s cousins do though), but I do get them and personally take them to the post office to oversee that every one gets sent. Of all 1000 or so of those two designs, we received less than 10 wrong address returns, and have since contacted those people. If you haven’t gotten yours and it’s one of those two designs, chances are it is gonna come back to me, in which case you’ll hear from me or Doug.
Dead As History and Party Smasher took fucking forever to make, for various reasons out of our control, mostly related to the difficulty of translating Shadowmonster’s crazy designs to a tangible piece of clothing. I am up the ass of the screenprinter every fucking day to get this done, knowing that you guys haven’t gotten your shirts yet, so if it’s any consulation remember that I am just as stressed out as you. It looks like I’m finally going to start getting shirts for those designs this week, and they’ll go out right the fuck away.
This whole shirt thing all started with an idea we had to really do something cool on a larger scale, the way we used to be able to do on a really small scale a long time ago, with the ethic that punk and hardcore bands used to have. Exclusivity, a hands on approach, blurring the line between us and you guys, eliminating people and companies in the middle. We are learning as we go, we are not a merch company, so just like it would take a merch company fucking forever to figure out how to kick the most ass as a band, we are taking some time to sort out all the aspects of business that we used to use a giant merch company for. However we do love you all and love The Dillinger Escape Plan and we are committed to not give up on doing cool shit like this just because we’ve had some hiccups in the supply side of the supply/demand equation. We’re getting it all ironed out, trying to make it all as smooth and fast as possible while maintaining the intimate DIY aspect of it. Believe me, every person I tell about this thinks we are fucking crazy and tells us to just let some other company handle this, but nobody knows what this band means to us more than us and it legitimately makes me happy to see people from around the world’s names on the labels of the packages when I take them to the post office, and know that I am hand mailing them something. It’s nice to know that if I wanted to I could throw in a Cheez-It or a piece of paper that says “Thanks, hope shit’s cool in Latvia” or “Suck It Dickface” or whatever, and that it is another way we can reach out to you guys and feel connected. So I know it’s tough, but realize like I said that our intentions for this are in the right place and we’re just getting the speed of it under control, after that we’ll fly through orders. That’s why we haven’t put up any more designs, we’re not putting up anymore until we get DAH and PS out, make sure we can do this quickly, and then we’re gonna release Sick On Sunday and Mouth Of Ghosts two for the price of one to make it up to all of you who’ve been waiting. We’re gonna do cool shit like this forever, for everything from shirts to DVDs, to avoid companies and give cooler shit to our real fans than the average turd can get in Hot-Topic, soooo realize that in the grand scheme of cool shit to come this is just the beginning and just like software or first generation anything, we’re working out the bugs. IF, you still really don’t know what the fuck is going on and feel like there’s some sort of mistake because you haven’t gotten your shit and just can’t wait any longer, just myspace me personally and I’ll look into it.
Also…..since you guys are on the messageboard you’re obviously a little more special than people who just read the myspace, so I’m gonna give you some insider info real quick and I’ll give you that in exchange for just trusting me on this whole merch thing and staying cool. Deal? Great. Remember when we tazed Jeff Tuttle and put his number online? Well it’s that time of the year again. This new wizkid we have playing drums for us is named Billy Rymer and he smokes the shit out of every one of our songs. We’ve been practicing more than ever in this band’s history, it’s more fun than it’s ever been, we’re practicing songs off of every album that we’ve NEVER played, learning awesome covers, writing ridiculous new shit, just having a blast. He’s honestly a mutant. Trust me when I say you guys are gonna lose your minds when you see this kid play our songs. Shit like Clip the Apex? Check. Perfect Design? Check. Mouth Of Ghosts? Flooring it. The only problem is that he reallllllly likes to get super obnoxious phone calls at about 3AM east coast time. He just doesn’t know it yet HAHAHA. So please please, it is my pleasure ladies and gentlemen, to order you to blow up his phone and yell “I’M OLD GREEEEEEGGGGGG, I’VE GOT A MANGINA” whenever you want until he changes his number. Post it all over the place, write it on bathroom walls with the line “loves to suck trucker dicks” written next to it, whatever you want. When we broke Tuttle off with this prank he went to sleep and woke up and had a full voicemail box and like 500 texts. That went on for about a month. Please beat that. Call the New Dork hotline at 516-356-5056.
I’m so glad nobody was as big of an asshole as I am when I joined the band.
Welcome aboard Billy.
That’s it. Don’t expect me to reply to any replies to this. When I come here it’s to sporadically drop serious knowledge or address some serious shit, not to answer questions about weightlifting or how to rule fulltime or how to scream like the white ape from Congo or whatever else you want the secrets of. Doug can handle shit from here on out, like I said, if it gets to the point where you can’t control your concerns any more, myspace me, its in the top friends of the Dillinger myspace. So when you reply to this message with shit you really wanna know like…..”How rad was it when you met Hetfield and Lars a couple weeks ago, please tell us the insanely awesome story that goes along with it”….. Don’t expect an answer. Some things are better left untold. You guys are great. Thanks for being patient. See you on tour, can’t wait.
Good day, take it away Doug.http://www.smnnews.com/board/showpost.php?p=3099885&postcount=318

Yeah, I did I was disputing it on paypal because of the lack of response from them. They finally got around to emailing me a couple days before the paypal dispute was supposed to end, I dropped the dispute and still got no shirt, that was back in early december I think. TICKET LINKS FOR SHOWS.....AND A FEW BIG SURPRISES! (THINK BASEMENTS, AUSTRALIA, KILLER DANES)
Ok so the upcoming schedule as of now with ticket links is as follows:
Feb 5th - Philly - The Barbary(SOLD OUT, MOTHERLICKERS)
Feb 6th - Baltimore - The Ottobar - GET TICKETS HERE (http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8vd3d3Lm1pc3Npb250aXguY29tL21vcmVpbmZvLm NmbT9Qcm9kdWN0X0lEPTczNjU=)
Feb 7th - NYC - The Studio at Webster Hall - GET TICKETS HERE (http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8vd3d3LmV0aXguY29tL3RpY2tldC9zZXJ2bGV0L2 9ubGluZVNhbGU/YWN0aW9uPXNlbGVjdFBlcmZvcm1hbmNlJmNvYnJhbmQ9d2Vic3 RlcmhhbGxzdHVkaW8mcGVyZm9ybWFuY2VfaWQ9OTE2MTQw)
Remember, these shows are NOT the biggest rooms in the world, so don't sleep on getting tickets early. Oh and Baltimore, so help me God if the Ottobar show isn't the unholy destructive force that you guys always make it, I'm gonna be majorly disappointed. It's a Friday night. Don't hold back.
Now, for something that you deffffinitely haven't seen in a reaallllllly long time.... we are playing....on February 8th......in New Jersey.....IN A BASEMENT. That's right. We're playing a fucking BASEMENT SHOW. The location of which is going to be completely secret until a few days beforehand, when we'll announce the location. Maybe we'll announce it here, maybe we'll announce it on our messageboard, maybe it'll be spraypainted on an overpass on the NJ Turnpike, maybe Asian Steve will run naked across the field at Super Bowl halftime with a flag bearing the address, who knows. I CAN tell you that the maximum capacity of this actual house basement will probably be in the double digits. Obviously we'll cram in as many people as possible, and probably do a little barbecue too. We may start doing random intimate things like this in the middle of seemingly normal tours in the future,so be ready. If you're in Jersey and you wanna see some crazy shit go down and endanger your life, show up at your own risk.
ANOTHER group of shows coming up, in addition to the Soundwave Festival dates in Australia, are two Soundwave offdates. They are:
........ February 24th Sydney, AUS - The Forum - GET TICKETS HERE (http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8vd3d3Lm1vc2h0aXguY29tLmF1L0V2ZW50LmFzcH g/aWQ9MjQ2NzcmcExvY2s9JnZpcD0mc2tpbj0mcmVmPQ==)
........February 25th Melbourne, AUS - The Esplanade - GET TICKETS HERE (http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8vdGlja2V0cy5venRpeC5jb20uYXUvP209Q2hvb3 NlJmV2ZW50SUQ9ODA2MyZwcm9tb0lEPTEwMA==)
Ok that about does it for today's goodies. Oh wait. It most certainly DOES NOT!!! (http://www.msplinks.com/MDFodHRwOi8vd3d3LnlvdXR1YmUuY29tL3dhdGNoP3Y9ckJnWU d4UE9aX3M=)
Huh! How 'bout that? OH YEAHHHHHHHHH!!!!! '87 Hetfield might have to move over and make some room on the Pedastal Of Badassery for a little guy called '09 Ulrich. Hey Lars, remember that time when you wrote that gnarly fill in the break of Sad But True? You could have done some stupid jive assed roll or an out of place obnoxious and busy fill, hell you could have even used toms, but instead you just said fuck it and beat on the snare like a caveman? BAP BAP BAP BAP BAP.....BAP BAP BAP BAP BAP? Cause that's what sounded the most killer? Hot shit. Or the time in Fight Fire With Fire when the guitar solo ends and there is no other music whatsoever but you're like "oh hell no" and refuse to stop playing double bass, and you just ride that shit all the way through like a train full of motherfuck until James starts riffing again? Shit yeah! Or maybe how in the beginning of the Seattle '89 concert video, when you start hitting the snare for Blackened, it's oh, I don't know, like 700% louder than every other instrument in the band? That's what I'm talking about, baby. We love you too.

Maybe a week and half ago I took a look back at Ire Works, since at first listen, I'll admit that I really didnt catch a real exciting vibe out of it. Now, despite having more than 1000 songs on my ipod, this is the only thing I have been listening to.
Nearly drove off the road rocking out to the point in Lurch at 1:27 when he's doing that "Oh sweety there's no sense in crying you're above them all". Good fun, good fun.
That and When Acting as a Wave are intense. Not to say the others are not incredible, because they are, there's no doubt about that, but those two portions were the first to come to mind. Overall, glad I revisited.

US Shows, LIl Wayne, Bass lessons, Ausi Side shows...
So we are about to play our first shows in the past 6 months. Boy are we getting fat and lazy. Time to start being kick ass and riggady again (made that word up I think). Do we even remember how to be kick ass and riggady? I guess you will have to come to these little shows and find out.
Feb 5th - Philly - The Barbary(SOLD OUT, MOTHERLICKERS)
Feb 6th - Baltimore - The Ottobar - GET TICKETS HERE
Feb 7th - NYC - The Studio at Webster Hall - GET TICKETS HERE
Feb 8th - NJ - Soon to be Announced Basement show (man i feel bad for this basement)
We would like to officially thank all of you who have taken the time to call our new drummer Billy the Nip and haze his ass. Especially the guy who thought it was a good idea to text him the word “faggot” 5001 times. Ok he gets the point! Most of you had really cool things to say to him though which was very precious. I can’t say I would have been as nice but cool of you none the less.
Time to talk a little bit about the opening bands for these shows. We’re extra excited for you to check these guys out. Ben Weinman rarely gives guitar lessons (probably because most kids don’t want to be taught how to break a guitar into about 100 pieces before you even play 2 notes and then get kicked out of his house) but has taken on like 3 students in his day. Oddly enough, all three of these students ended up having serious degrees of awesomeness in one way or another and will be performing as part of these shows.
The first being Kevin Backroom’s Knife the Glitter. Not only are these guys probably one of the only bands doing the instrumental techy prog thing that is actually tolerable, but they are really fucking good. Think King Crimson, Cynic, and Dillinger having a sword fight on top of Mount Olympus. Ok that sounded really lame but they rule. Check em http://www.myspace.com/knifetheglitter
Next up is our boy Kevin H. Esq and his band Caverns. Yes you heard it right. Just like all your moms but holes, Caverns is raw and cavernous. And yes Kevin is a real lawyer yet somehow chooses to play in a noise rock instrumental band. We are really glad he does though cause these guys rip. Only instead of some dork shredding arpeggios and finger tapping on an “axe”, these guys have a lead piano player. And I’m not talking about one of those horrible keyboard players that get on stage with one of the 1000 horrible myspace bands and jump around like an idiot holding their figures down on one note either. I’m talking Ray Manzarek from the doors style rocking. Bass lines and all! I guess some where down the line Ben thought it was a good idea to trade guitar lessons for legal services and ever since they roll around town like Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro in Fear and loathing in Las Vegas. The last student of Ben’s is Asian Steve who will be performing in an entirely different way. It’s more like life art. Some kind of Peter and the Wolf shit where music just follows him around in the form of a Gong or some Chinese flutes. Expect to see him running around stage like a mad man as everything breaks. What would we do without him? Oh and he can play every song on guitar ever known to man so feel free to challenge him to a guitar cover dual if you dare.

Philly 2/5/09 review (http://www.phrequency.com/genres/hardcore/No_Need_To_Escape.html)
Not that anyone doubted them, but Thursday night at the Barbary reaffirmed what everyone in the world already knew…The Dillinger Escape Plan is for real and they’re back. New drummer in tow, the band turned a little North Philly bar into a revival meeting of mayhem and distortion.
With only two bands listed on the bill, when Washington D.C.’s Caverns opened the show to a room of 15 people, one guy oddly wearing headphones, the reaction was understandably underwhelming. A three piece with no singer, Caverns found a way to make an effect-soaked guitar, a piano and a drummer work and sound kind of interesting. The unfortunate thing about Caverns is while they’re sonically interesting, it was impossible to tell one song from the next besides when their guitarist said, “This song’s called ‘Turkish Bathhouse Armageddon.’”
North Jersey’s Knife the Glitter was previously a random grindcore five piece, but now play as a three-piece instrumental band with a 7-string guitar and a 6-string bass. Prog-rock like the Mars Volta but metallic like Dillinger, this band came to the stage saying “We’re Knife the Glitter from New Jersey. And we rule.” Somehow able to only fit three songs into a set (due to technical problems), every song KTG played was opened by a taped sample of Pantera singer Phil Anselmo saying something insane. When Phil Anselmo is the most memorable part of a set he’s not on stage for, that says something.
When done correctly, instrumental bands can change the way you listen to music, and Dub Trio is perhaps the best instrumental band in heavy music today. Don’t let the name fool you, Dub Trio eschews the vintage meaning of the first word of their name, instead using delay and loop pedals to their advantage, making every note sound epic. Combining the mathematical insanity of Dillinger with the hooky riffs of early Metallica, Dub Trio somehow made a room of Dillinger Escape Plan diehards into fans, causing even the kid with headphones on to take them off and be enveloped in the band’s huge sound. After two shows with Dillinger, Dub Trio is off to tour with Flogging Molly and the Aggrolites, making them one of the most versatile tourmates ever.
After a six-month absence, the Dillinger Escape Plan hit the stage for the first time with their new drummer, Billy Rymer of New York prog-rock band The Rivalry. Opening with “The Mullet Burden” from their recently-reissued debut EP Under the Running Board, if you were to close your eyes you’d imagine it’s still Chris Pennie behind the kit for DEP. Needless to say, even after only one song, Rymer fit in perfectly.
Ben Weinman, the lone original member of the band still standing, took the stage in a dress shirt, but immediately lost control as he has done so many times before. Weinman jumped off the walls, off the monitors, off his guitar cab and off of anything else he could find that was high enough to jump off of. Singer Greg Puciato jumped into the crowd the second that the band kicked into high gear with “Panasonic Youth” from their amazing 2004 album, Miss Machine.
Ever the frontman, Puciato shoved the microphone in kids faces, gave them water and somehow ended up hanging upside down from the light rig screaming in the faces of those below him. One of the only bands that could genuinely be considered “dangerous” to go see, Dillinger didn’t disappoint. Not necessarily a rhythm guitarist, Jeff Tuttle took on the same role as Weinman, playing to the crowd and almost hitting fans in the face with the headstock of his guitar, even having Puciato put the mic in his face to sing along after a successful stage dive attempt…with his guitar.
Debuting no new songs, the band did manage to play “Horse Hunter” from their last album, 2007’s Ire Works, for the first time, along with a stunning cover of Living Colour’s “Cult of Personality.” Weinman and co. managed to take an 80’s classic and turn it into a Dillinger song, which brings to mind the question “Why haven’t they done this before?” That’s how good it was.
To close the show, the band played “Sunshine the Werewolf” from Miss Machine, while Puciato taunted the crowd to come towards him and sing along. Puciato screamed, Weinman thrashed his guitar around his head when he wasn’t blowing minds with his playing, Liam Wilson made some of the most intense bass faces of all time, Tuttle jumped into the crowd again and Rymer pounded his kit like he wanted to hit harder than the bands previous drummers. As the refrain of “Destroyer, they’ll be another just like you” was sung by Puciato and the whole crowd, Weinman tossed his guitar 20 feet in front of him, landing on the floor.
“One more song, one more song” the crowd chanted before the band came back for a mini-encore. One song later, Puciato thanked the crowd and sent them on their way, not before hanging out, shaking hands and posing for pictures.
Look out for the Dillinger Escape Plan in 2009. One of the best bands in heavy music may have just gotten better with the injection of a new member and a new album on the way. Find a way to see this band…you’ll have a story for the rest of your life.

I think I'd really like to hear this cover of "Cult of Personality." Especially after seeing their rendition of "Hot For Teacher."
JayCal, I'm a big fan of Living Colour, but I don't know that I've ever considered Corey Glover one of the best rock singers of all time. I know he was covering the role of Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar, but personally that play/film has never done anything for me.
So I didn't see the link to the 'Cult of Personality' cover, and while I love DEP, they are the whitest bunch of guys alive. That cover didn't have any groove at all. Has their drummer even heard that song?!

In going with JayCal's statement that the whole band is good, I'd like to elaborate further and see what Jay says about which bassist he liked better. Muzz or Doug?
I prefer Muzz Skillings. Doug Wimbish is a great player, and is great in Living Colour, but Muzz' work on 'Vivid' alone, is some fantastic bass playing.

Haha, man, I've actually discussed this with people before. Funny you bring it up. I think I'm with you. Doug is awesome, and he's done all sorts of cool shit, in and out of LC, but I think I like Muzz. He tears it up all over the first two albums.
NOW HERE'S A QUESTION FOR YOU. You may not be familiar enough with their work, though... if not, seriously, you should check it out... but... ANDREW WEISS OR MELVIN GIBBS in Rollins Band? Both are ridiculous, but their styles are super different. For a quick primer I'd check out The End of Silence (Weiss) vs. Weight (Gibbs). Although if you hate Rollins Band and don't feel like listening, then this is all kaput.

Dillinger Escape Plan Unload in New Jersey: Inside the Craziest Basement Show Ever (http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/02/10/dillinger-escape-plan-unload-in-new-jersey-inside-the-craziest-basement-show-ever/)
2/10/09, 5:46 pm EST
The tour bus came to a stop on a residential block in New Brunswick, New Jersey, easily three times as long as any of the houses were wide. This obviously wasn’t going to be your standard basement show, although no show is quite standard when metal chaoticians Dillinger Escape Plan — possibly the most unhinged band in America — are involved. The previous night in a small room at New York’s Webster Hall, the band smashed its gear, was jumped by fans onstage, and swung from lighting rigs over the audience’s heads. Now transfer that image to a room just a little larger than a two-car garage that isn’t tall enough to do jumping jacks in.
The address was kept secret until the day of the show, and the band only posted the location its MySpace page for roughly 10 minutes before Dan (who would rather not give his last name), who lives in the house, panicked and called the band to have it removed. Dan holds shows in his basement every other week, but called Sunday “the most stressful night ever. But when one of my favorite bands wants to do a show in my house, I can’t say no.”
And so 17 years after Anthrax played the Bundys’ house on Married… With Children, Dillinger took the stage – really just a corner – and tore into hyper-aggressive songs like “The Mullet Burden,” “Panasonic Youth” and “Fix Your Face.” The staggeringly cramped basement somehow made space for multiple mosh pits to open up, and holes were spontaneously punched in the ceiling, which unfortunately did nothing to fix the suffocating ventilation issues. The 100-plus strong crowd thrashed without any concern for its confines, even though it seemed as if a body hurtling through one of the ceiling supports could being the entire place down.
By the time the band ended with a cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Wish,” the more fearful or exhausted had escaped up the stairs, and Dan was finally able to breathe easy: no cops, no major injuries, and no substantial damage was reported. He had put together a night that would live on among the fans in rumor, but he wasn’t in a rush to do it again any time soon.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSKhh8gONV0

even though it's only been one album since MM....the direction they've gone in is just such a letdown. the new music they put out is so trendy and bland...not at all what you expect from a band like DEP. they used to be such a chaotic, interesting band to listen to. now they're just...gay. can't think of a better term.

miss machine and ire works are completely different albums. miss machine >>>> ire works. ire works is a complete embarrassment of an album. even though miss machine was in a different direction than calculating infinity, it was still a solid album. ire works is just shit.
was there a mainstream faith no more worship trend that i missed? if not, then im not seeing whats trendy about recent DEP
when i say trendy, i just mean that i feel like they're trying to write songs that could garnish radio/mtv airtime. and yes, it's true that miss machine had plenty of songs that you could say the same thing about...however miss machine was still a really strong, interesting album. there's just nothing on ire works that makes me want to go back and listen again.

ire works is better than miss machine. dead as history and mouth of ghosts is more interesting that pretty much anything on MM.
im happy with their new direction
people need to stop whining about the changing their direction to get radio play
mainstream radio is a nonissue anymore and is never going to play them, and satellite radio is going to play them no matter what, whether they keep in the direction theyre going or finally release calculating infinity pt. 2 (which would probably suck).

DILLINGER, AUSTRALIA, NINE INCH NAILS, NEW SHIRTS, MANIAC MANSION, BILLY DIES IF HE EATS
Hey everyone, a little update.
We just got back from Australia, and even though the flight/layover/flight/layover/flight(and that's just one way!!) combination is enough to make you lose your mind forever, I gotta tell everyone in Australia, and everyone reading wherever you are, that we have never, or at least speaking for myself, I have never had more fun on a tour. We have never been on tour with so many friends at one time, and the combination of that fact, with amazing weather, unbelievable shows, and ridiculous random adventures made it two straight weeks of pure FACE(refer to a few blogs back if you don't know what I'm talking about). We had ourselves, Poison The Well, Everytime I Die, NIN, and other random peeps like Unearth and Underoath and The Bloodhound Gang, just tons of people we're friendly with, just acting a fool and causing a ruckus pretty much nonstop.
Two weeks. Total insanity. Bridge climbing, scuba diving, riding bikes across little islands populated with weird creatures, swimming in the Indian ocean, getting yelled at by hotel managers for jumping off of roofs into the pool, leaving a trail of absolute carnage across Australia on and offstage. We've got some good stuff on video between us and ETID that we're gonna combine into a little joint video blog for everyone in the next few days, and if we don't have it on video Keith from ETID and I are gonna try to fill in the blanks with some written tales. All that stuff'll come up in a few days. For now though, to tide you over, I wanna put you up on a few things you should definitely check out.
First of all, in case you hadn't heard, Ben and I guested with Nine Inch Nails on their song “Wish”, in Adelaide, and you can check out the high definition video Rob from the Nails camp shot right the fuck HERE. If you can't load that, HERE'S the same footage but in YouTube format. The next show, in Perth, Nails let us ALL come up and do the song again. There's no HD up yet from that show, but here's some CROWD FOOTAGE to whet your appetite. Thanks to NIN for letting us join forces with them for what probably looked like more people than there are in Earth Wind and Fire having a musical gay pride rally onstage.
Oh yeah, Billy Rymer kills it on the drum kit but apparently is allergic to 95% of the edible substances on the planet so he threw up/passed out/almost died about seven times during our trip. I don't know whether that's morbidly hilarious or horrifying or a bit of both but if this kid dies from a peanut or some mustard or what have you I'll be a full believer in the DEP
curse and never get onstage again.
Speaking of Billy I'm not sure how much of a proper introduction everyone's had to him, but yeah this Billy kid brings a weird anxiety to our playing that we haven't had in some time, really plays on top of the beat if that means anything to you music geeks, and its making our shows feel completely propelled by spastic destructive energy like they haven't been in a while. A lot of people who've been around us a long time are saying this is the best we've been in years, which is crazy to hear but you'll see for yourself if you haven't yet. Billy boy's getting ready to move in with Ben and they're gonna do nothing but drink large amounts of caffeine and rip out the insanity from morning to night. There's never really been a Dillinger house, its always been people getting to the practice space from different locations, writing in bedrooms, etc. Now we're gonna do that whole live and breathe the new album thing from morning to night to try to create the ultimate DEP record or kill one another trying, we'll post snippets of demos or some vids now and then to keep you all on your toes. We're gonna paint all the walls black and have strobes on while we write and keep random deadly live animals in the house and set Spy VS Spy style traps for one another and shoot bottle rockets at each other inside and probably end up dead but you guys'll have a killer record at the end of it all. It's pretty much gonna be like that house in the Tom Hanks movie “The Burbs” mixed with Maniac Mansion except way weirder and waaaayyyy louder.
Back to limited shirts. Everything has gone out, you might not have Dead As History yet because they literally JUST went out, but you should be getting them within the next few days depending on where you live. Any questions about any other shirt or address change shit, go to our message board and check out the merch thread and all questions will be answered. We've gotten ten or so returns for people we can't get in touch with, so we're gonna post a list of names of that handful of people in that thread, so if you see your name get in touch with the thread boss guy and we'll get you sorted out along with a signed CD. What shirts do we have left? We've done Bubblegum, Fix Yer Face, Dead As History, 82588
Red and Green, Particle, Milk Lizard, Party Smasher, and Horse Hunter. So we've got Lurch, Sick On Sunday, Wave, Nong Eye, and Mouth Of Ghosts left. Lets get this shit moving so we can be done by the time the new record comes out! We're gonna throw everyone a bone
since this shit's been taking so long on our end, and we know the economy's been sucking it pretty hard lately and pretty soon we're gonna be using seashells for money. Here's the next two shirts, Lurch and Sick On Sunday, together for the price of one. We're gonna keep
them up until March 15th. Ten days. That's a pretty big window. If you miss out its your own damn fault. Check 'em out here then cruise back to the main page to pick 'em up. We're also gonna be making these on softer thinner more fitted shirts from now on, like the Party Smasher design if you got that one, in an effort to keep the quality of these shirts higher than ones you get elsewhere, so you can look as devastatingly handsome/delicious as possible when you're wearing them, so that people who don't even know who we are will stop you and say “Hey man where can I get that shirt?” and you can say “Suck it loser you can't.”. Anyhow, you get the picture. Here they are, Lurch and Sick On Sunday, for ten days only, for the price of one. You're welcome.
Alright that's enough for now I don't want you all to explode.
Oh yeah! One more thing. Ben's signed up for a Dillinger Twitter account, so since I talk at everyone on here he can fill you in on the day to day with the Twitter thing. It's hooked up to our main page so you can check it out there, or if you wanna have Ben's little updates sent to your phone, go to the front page and click on whatever you need to click on to figure it out, and you can get little updates from Ben W. himself while you're doing anything.
Enjoy the videos and the new threads, thanks Australia, thanks to NIN and ETID/PTW/every other band we were rolling with on a daily basis, we'll get the video blog up within a
few days.
Love.....The Dillinger Escape Plan
PS. Before I wrote this I had a dream I was drowning but had to throw my friend Chuck a bounce pass before I went underwater. I got the pass off but then drowned/died/woke up in a fast breathed panic before I could see if he made the shot. What the hell does that mean? Why was out of bounds a deadly black sea? Anybody? What's the weirdest dream you guys have had lately? Cause I'll probably be trying to figure that one out for a few days.

I was just thinking about that movie.
I like how the dude starts-out in a nut house, goes on a blind crime spree out of sheer allegiance to his friend, falls in love with a girl who doesn't speak his language...
... and ends-up being (by-far) the most rational and empathetic person in the film.

I posted the following in the DEP merch forum. Am I too picky, or does anyone else that this is a fucking rip off? You pay $29 for a shirt and wait 6 months for it, you expect quality. Amirite?
I have 2 of the other custom shirts (particle and 82588) and I have been so fucking impressed and happy with these, they are some of my favorite shirts! :)
But am I the only person that is let down by these?
This is what we were shown it was going to look like upon ordering, back in November:

Awesome, right? Fucking badass shirt.
6 months later receive this, which looks like a retard in a methlab printed this.

Anyone else here feel this pain? I know you guys were having some issues with the printers (Apparently 6+ months of issues), but these issues need to be resolved between you and the printer. You are their customer, as we are yours. This does not need to be taken out on the loyal customers and fans. I know you're busy, Doug, so I shot you an email too, hit me back.
Did I Stutter?

That's what I call, getting effed in the T. I still don't get how these guys fucked up this whole 'limited' T-shirt operation. Aside from the printing issues they had, this thing certainly turned into a major ordeal.

Yeah it's fucking gay as shit, and I'm not going to look happy and fly a plane with my piece of shit shirt like this dude:
http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/5275/dahshirt.jpg
i can understand there being slight differences between a mockup and the actual shirt, but thats a pretty big difference. though personally, i think huge prints like the mockup are gay, so i would prefer something like the second, but i dont blame you for being mad over not getting what was represented.

yeah i wouldve been pretty pissed. i thought the dead as history shirt looked awesome and almost bought it, but i had already bought some. the actual shirt kinda sucks.
however, the two i got (82588 and party smasher) are ridiculously good. the PS one fits perfect and the gold chain actually looks like a gold chain. it was worth the wait.
the lurch one looked pretty awesome too but i cant keep buying this shit

i already bought tix to the columbus show.
that club is pretty tiny so it should be awesome.
Well, just hours after revealing that they were no longer on the Relapse Records roster, confirmation that Dillinger Escape Plan has signed with Season Of Mist Records has arrived. The band's new album will be released in early-2010 via Season Of Mist in collaboration with the group's new label, Phonogetic Records.
Guitar player Ben Weinman comments: "It is becoming clear that as the music industry standard continues to morph and change on a daily basis, artistic and operational freedom has become a band's most valuable asset. 100% free of all previous contractual ties, Dillinger is in an amazing position to collaborate with some interesting partners which will continue to nurture the ethic that we have been doing our best to stay true to for over 10 years now. While touring Europe in support of our record, Ire Works, I had the pleasure of meeting Michael Berberian, distributor and owner of the independent record label Season of Mist. It quickly became clear that we had very similar ideas about Dillinger's music and its place in the underground. Season of Mist has always been a leader in releasing some of the most extreme and interesting metal and experimental music. We look forward to releasing our next full length effort in association with Season of Mist as the very first chapter of this new journey. Also, Michael's last name almost spells out Barbarian which Greg was really excited about."
