Is there no "open" drum mode? You're able to do the fills, so why is there no mode where you can just fuck around?

Just recently borrowed this from a buddy, and my girl fell in love with it.
It's kind of irritating how they don't just release a giant schedule for releases.
I am hoping they put out some more NIN tracks eventually, however.

GRANOLEMAN
03-30-2008, 04:38 PM
They have already released a NIN track pack.

Nine Inch Nails - "March of the Pigs" (master)
Nine Inch Nails - "The Collector" (master)
Nine Inch Nails - "The Perfect Drug" (master)

still alive

Hey everybody!

This week we have a special present for you in celebration of April Fool's Day. For $0 (0 Microsoft Points) you can download-

"Still Alive" by GlaD0s and Jonathan Coulton (master)

Due to work Sony is doing on their store they won't be adding new material for a couple weeks so this won't release on PlayStation Store this week. When they go back up with new material in a few weeks, though, it will be there lovingly waiting for you. For free. I'll post something up here when it is available on that platform.

It will be available on Xbox360 on April 1st.

Also special thanks to Valve and to Jonathan Coulton for helping to make this happen. You rule.

Talk about this week's DLC here.

DLC credits available here.

Check Rockband.com/life for stories about each week's DLC.

thing looks rather pimp (but expen$ive). they've also got a "twin rocker" switch to allow for double bass.

fagwhathappened
03-31-2008, 10:22 AM
That kick is nice. You can use just a simple headphone splitter on the pedals, i just need to find a broken one or something.

ballsniffer
03-31-2008, 10:25 AM
well the thing w/the headphones splitter is if you have one pedal down the other won't work (b/c the circuit is already closed). their thing fixes that somehow

i guess if you keep your feet up all the time that won't matter, but i tend to keep my bass foot down after i hit it

GRANOLEMAN
03-31-2008, 10:26 AM

I know you guys couldn't care less but this shit is certainly fucked: they've finally set the release date for Europe, 23rd of May. Alas, EA seems to think Europe = Great Britain, France and Germany. So still no fucking Rock Band for Scandinavia or anybody else. The price for GB is set at £180 which translates to a ludicrous $350. This is really amazing. How fucking difficult can it be to manufacture some fucking plastic toys when they can pump out millions of consoles, mobile phones etc. in mere months. Truly fucking unbelievable. I'd boycott this shit if I didn't want it like crack (or if the XBOX 360 didn't have regional encoding).

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080418/wr_nm/mtv_rockband_dc

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - MTV said on Friday it will start selling full albums that can be downloaded and played in its "Rock Band" video game, with the first title coming next week from classic metal act Judas Priest.

Judas Priest's "Screaming for Vengeance," which contains the band's hit "You've Got Another Thing Comin"' and nine other tracks, will cost $15, with individual songs from the album going for $2 each, MTV said.
In "Rock Band," launched last November, players strum guitar controllers, pound a fake drum kit, or sing into a microphone in time with songs playing on a television screen.

MTV, a unit of entertainment firm Viacom Inc, has released new tunes every week for "Rock Band," usually in the form of three-song packs focused on an artist or genre, with players buying more than 8 million songs so far.
"Our intention is to cover every base, both in terms of era and every sub-genre of rock," Alex Rigopulos, founder of the Harmonix studio that makes the game, said in an interview.

"Rock Band" competes with the "Guitar Hero" franchise from Activision Inc, which adds fresh songs less frequently but is scheduled to roll out a new installment in June focusing on classic rock band Aerosmith.
"Rock Band" has long promised full albums, and the Judas Priest album will be followed in May by the self-titled debut album of 1980s rockers The Cars, and in June with "Doolittle" from alternative band The Pixies.

"These are three very different rock albums and each is very seminal in its own way," Rigopulos said.
The Judas Priest album hits the online store for Microsoft Corp's Xbox 360 on April 22, and arrives on Sony Corp's PlayStation 3 store two days later.

This is the problem, not the solution.

To understand the solution, you must first come to a realization that 95% of the time, the base audience of these games are NOT - 1.members of the the prp board 2.musicians and 3.fans of music other than mainstream radio shit like Nickelback. The worst thing that could ever happen is that these people take your advice, go out and buy instruments, and then bombard your music scene with shitty music. If you would like an example of how horrible and real this scenario can become, please come to St. Louis sometime.

I'm not saying that it's a test of musical skill by any means, I am however saying that know multiple fairly well-versed musicians who respectively enjoy playing the games. Not to mention most songs cost more the $1.00 in MS points and you can't even do anything with them outside the game, like put them on your iPod or burn them to a cd, ect.

you know that you could make this argument about any game right

PS2 to PS3 Guitar Hero Adapter Rescues Otherwise Functional Guitars
http://kotaku.com/assets/resources/2008/04/ps23adapter.jpg

DUST OFF YOUR FAVORITE PS2 GUITAR CONTROLLERS! THE ANT COMMANDOS' PLAYSTATION® 2 TO PLAYSTATION® 3 ADAPTER IS NOW AVAILABLE TO REVITALIZE YOUR PS2 GUITAR HERO CONTROLLERS
TAC's Universal Adapter Is The First On The Market That is 100% Compatible With Guitar HeroT 3 & Rock BandT Features

April 28, 2008 - Ontario, CA- The Ant Commandos (TAC), a leading provider of innovative wireless video game music peripherals and accessories, announced today its universal PlayStation 2 to PlayStation 3 adapter for guitar and game controllers is now available at retail for an SRP of $19.99.

This is great news for Guitar Hero and Rock Band fans as they can protect their investment in PS2 guitar controllers and revitalize them for Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band for PS3. Gamers will no longer have to throw away all of the valuable PS2 hardware they have accumulated over the years. The new PlayStation 2 to PlayStation 3 adapter enables all PS2 controllers, such as PS2 Guitar Hero guitars, to be utilized on
the PlayStation 3. Unlike previous attempts from other companies, TAC's universal adapter is 100% compatible with all of the popular guitar controllers on the market, and is engineered to function
perfectly with every feature in the Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band games for PS3.
"When consumers purchase a PS2 to PS3 adapter for their favorite PS3 games, they expect everything to be compatible. It is devastating for a player to discover that certain game features such as hammer on,
hammer off don't work with other adapters on the market," said Jesse Manwill, Senior Manager, Product Management at TAC. "The great thing about the new TAC universal adapter is that we take into account every feature that players love in Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band for PS3, and ensure that every gamer can have an enjoyable experience with their video game peripherals. We spent an incalculable amount of engineering and testing time with almost all guitar controllers in the market to make sure it is compatible."

The new TAC universal adapter is guaranteed to work on all of TAC's PS2 guitar controllers. The adapter is also compatible with regular PS2 controllers, Red Octane's and Activision's SG Controller, the Kramer Wireless, Nyko's PS2 Frontman guitar, the DreamGear Shredster, all React PS2 guitar controllers and all Psyclone PS2 guitar controllers, along with many other brands. Additionally, the TAC adapter features
a Power On Indicator LED, Easy Plug-N-Play installation, and supports multiple PlayStation 2 to PlayStation 3 adapters. The Universal PS2 to PS3 adapter is available now.

On the other side of the coin, it's a fucking bummer that Blur's "Beetlebum" is a fucking cover.

Look no further than next week's Rock Band DLC. The Pixies' "Doolittle" is coming. For 1520 Microsoft Points ($19) you can own the entire album. That's 14 master tracks to go along with "Wave of Mutilation," which is already included with Rock Band. Or you can pick and choose songs at 160 Microsoft Points ($2) per track.

Released in 1989, "Doolittle" is a classic album that helped cement the Pixies as one of the preeminent alternative rock bands. Here's the complete list of tracks available for download next week:

* "Crackity Jones"
* "Dead"
* "Debaser"
* "Gouge Away"
* "Here Comes Your Man"
* "Hey"
* "I Bleed"
* "La la Love You"
* "Monkey Gone To Heaven"
* "Mr Grieves"
* "No 13 Baby"
* "Silver"
* "Tame"
* "There Goes My Gun"

Just because an album is great for your iPod doesn't necessarily mean it's great to play in a music game. Fear not. For the most part "Doolittle" delivers. This is an eclectic album with songs that sound and play quite different from one another. Most are short and sweet, but the tempo varies greatly from one to the next. The only thing that can be said universally about the entire album is that it's not very challenging. Even casual drummers can handle most of the songs on hard and those who only dream of playing guitar on expert can give it a go on the majority of tracks. Only vocalists are put to task as singer Black Francis runs the vocal gamut. If hitting your upper register isn't your thing, then the Pixies may be the end of your virtual singing career.

Rock Band has never been about providing insurmountable challenges. Instead, it's a game focused on creating a welcoming atmosphere where four people can pretend they're rock stars. The offerings from The Pixies are certainly fun. Everyone will have a blast with "Monkey Gone to Heaven," "There Goes My Gun" and "Debaser." Those are three of the best songs to play with a group.

On the other side of the spectrum, "Silver" may be the worst song I have ever played on Rock Band. While the song is fantastic to listen to, it's a snore to play. The drums feature the same repetitive pads, hit in a very slow rhythm, the bass is too simplistic for even a novice and Kim Deal's song stylings will have your friends offering a shrill falsetto certain to cause a few eardrums to bleed. The only other qualm is that Harmonix cut off the word "marijuana" in "Gouge Away." It just says "mari-" and then the vocals drop for a second. When did marijuana become a dirty word?

Aside from "Silver" the rest of the album is solid. Without question this is one of the best downloads so far for Rock Band. And more importantly it serves one of the key goals Harmonix set for its music game -- introduce people to artists they might not have previously heard. While the cool kids in school know every song on "Doolittle" by heart, there are many more who are about to be introduced to the Pixies' brilliance. That's pretty awesome.

"Doolittle" will be available Tuesday, June 17 on Xbox Live Marketplace and Thursday, June 19 on the PlayStation store.

Wake Up! Rock Band 2 hitting this September [Update]

Update: Apologizes, the early hours seem to have hit us. Rock Band 2 is scheduled to release on the Xbox 360 this September with a PS3 release later in the year. Other platforms have not been confirmed at the time of the press release.

Are you sitting down? Today MTV, Harmonix (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/tag/Harmonix/) and EA surprised no one by confirming suspicion that Rock Band 2 (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/tag/Rock-Band-2/) was in the works. Yes, the worst-kept secret of sequels since Microsoft announced Halo 3 is scheduled to hit this September on the Xbox 360 PS3 and other yet-to-be named platforms.

In an interview with IGN (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/885/885168p1.html), Harmonix lead designer Dan Teasdale spilled some carefully worded beans on the sequel. Most importantly Harmonix confirmed all Rock Band downloadable content will also work in Rock Band 2 and Teasdale also teased that new features are planned "that let you play your DLC in different ways." Teasdale also states that new downloadable content will be released for the Rock Band (http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/tag/Rock-Band/) platform when Rock Band 2 is released, meaning you can download all DLC and play on either version. Also, the dreaded profile switching issue in the original is being examined and corrected for a more streamlined experience.

While Teasdale also confirms new instruments are in development for Rock Band 2 they are only receiving more reliable and cosmetic changes, meaning your old Rock Band sets will still work as well. While Teasdale doesn't confirm some of the questions posed to him, he does tease at the possibility of and online World Tour and multiple users on vocals instruments.

Jump in for a look at the new Stratocaster guitar as well as the top ten bands Teasdale hinted might make it onto the Rock Band 2 retail disc.

Top Ten Bands IGN asked Teasdale for in Rock Band 2, to which he replied some of the picks are on the disc but did not confirm which, are:

Agent Orange
The Beatles
Built to Spill
The Buzzcocks
Journey
Led Zeppelin
Modest Mouse
Pavement
The Replacements

By DERRIK J. LANG, AP Entertainment Writer 1 hour, 46 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES - "Rock Band" is ready for an encore.
A sequel to the play-along music game that redefined the genre last year will be released first for the Xbox 360 in September, according to publisher MTV Games and developer Harmonix. "Rock Band 2" will feature a new variety of instruments, online modes and songs, and will allow players to import their previously purchased "Rock Band" tunes.
"With the original 'Rock Band,' the focus was on innovation," Harmonix co-founder and CEO Alex Rigopulos told The Associated Press. "With 'Rock Band 2,' the focus is on perfection of the experience. We've had a year to listen to our fans and build out the scope, depth and polish of the experience, so it feels like a second-generation band game."

MTV Games and Harmonix will debut "Rock Band 2" on Microsoft's Xbox 360 in September then make the game available for Sony's PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 as well as Nintendo's Wii later in the year. The original "Rock Band" was simultaneously released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 last November before later coming to the PlayStation 2 and Wii.
"Microsoft has been a great partner for 'Rock Band,'" said Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music Group, which oversees the "Rock Band" franchise. "It's just so easy to download the content using the Xbox 360 system. It's evolved into a great marketing partnership as well. They'll really blow it out for us."

"Rock Band" allows up to four gamers to form a virtual band, thrashing and singing along to songs with friends online or in-person on various phony instruments. The second edition will feature a playlist of over 80 songs — all master recordings — which will include more female-fronted bands and artists who have never contributed tunes to a music game.
If you've already downloaded a song for the original "Rock Band" — at about $1.99 per track, which can't be transferred to an MP3 player — it will immediately be loaded into your "Rock Band 2" song list without needing to be repurchased or re-downloaded. It's the first time such retroactive compatibility has been introduced in a music game.
"It's the No. 1 most-requested feature from our fans," said Rigopulos.

All prior versions of "Rock Band" instruments, as well as many from the competing "Guitar Hero" franchise, will also be compatible with "Rock Band 2." Harmonix will unleash a collection of new instrument-shaped controllers, including a sturdier drum kit and a Fender Stratocaster reproduction guitar lined with faux wood-grain buttons.
"For fans interested in hardware, the second-generation peripherals are an amazing step forward from the first-generation guitar and drums," said Rigopulos of Harmonix, which created the first two "Guitar Hero" games. "The instruments make huge strides in both fit and finish as well as features and functions."

Thus far, over 15 million songs of the over 200 available tracks have been downloaded from the "Rock Band" online music store since the game's launch last November. The catalog includes songs from rock acts such as The Rolling Stones, Blondie, The Cars, Wolfmother, Queens of the Stone Age, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth and Jimmy Buffett.
MTV Games and Harmonix are releasing 12 "Rock Band" songs on July 15 from The Who — ranging from "My Generation" to "Who Are You" — that all utilize the band's master recordings. The tracks will be available for $1.99 individually or $19.99 together. The special release coincides with the upcoming "VH1 Rock Honors" ceremony commemorating The Who.
"Their music really comes alive when you're playing it," said Rigopulos. "We were trying to release 'Who's Next' in its entirety, but we were unable to locate all the masters. So in the face of that, Pete (Townshend) and Roger (Daltrey) helped curate this best-of soundtrack of everything we were able to find."

The official announcement of "Rock Band 2" means the industry's rhythm game rivalry will enter a three-way matchup this fall against Activision and RedOctane's latest "Guitar Hero" title and Konami's new-music-game-on-the-block "Rock Revolution," which will use the Wii's controllers to simulate air guitars and drums.
Playing music on plastic guitars has become a big business. "Guitar Hero III" has sold 2.5 million units while "Rock Band" has moved 1.3 million units. Both music games are in the top-10 moneymakers for 2008 so far, according to the most recent monthly video game sales data from NPD Group analyst Anita Frazier.

Rigopulos wouldn't comment on how much "Rock Band 2" would cost. The original game bundled with all the instruments went for about $170 at launch. Rigopulos said MTV Games, Harmonix and distributor Electronic Arts were making every effort possible to provide several choices for consumers looking to gear up for "Rock Band 2."
"Guitar Hero World Tour" — the fourth iteration of the franchise that started the music-game trend — will be released in October and will feature a "Rock Band"-like assemblage of peripheral instruments for the first time, as well as the ability make instrumental music, a feature Rigopulos said won't be found on "Rock Band 2."

"We really felt like we wanted to do it right," said Rigopulos. "We're taking a radically different approach to that problem. It's something we wanted to take more time to do it right. It's actually something we're not focused on in 'Rock Band 2.' We're really focused on other areas related to the music and bringing the community together."
MTV Games and Harmonix plan to announce additional "Rock Band 2" details — including the game's playlist — at the E3 Media and Business Summit in July. MTV executive Toffler hinted that "Rock Band 2" will be expanding upon idea of what it means to play online as well eventually broadening the musical genres of available downloadable content. "I believe we're going to see global online competitions where bands performing throughout the world will compete against each other," said Toffler. "I'm personally excited to open up the genres of music to country, hip-hop and R&B. We've just scratched the surface, really."

"All I Want" Offspring
"Breed" Nirvana
"Brown Sugar" Rolling Stones
"Burn" Nine Inch Nails

they fixed a few DLC songs with vocal glitches and stuff and you were able to re-download the updated track so it'd be cool if they added a double kick pedal to the drums and you could re-download an updated chart of songs they dumbed down the double kick on (the haunted, at the gates)

UK Rock Band 2 release comment, "a misunderstanding"

UK gamers, you might want to take a seat for this one. Speaking with Eurogamer, EA has stated that there has been a misunderstanding regarding the UK release of Rock Band 2.

"There was a misunderstanding and there is no confirmed date for Europe," an unnamed spokesperson from EA told Eurogamer. Yesterday we reported an unnamed EA rep hinted at a possible simultaneous release for the upcoming title.

Currently the only confirmed release information for the recently announced sequel is the title's Xbox 360 timed-exclusivity for a Stateside launch sometime in September. Could Rock Band 2 also suffer from a late release throughout North America much like the original which launched in December 2007 in Canada? Only time will tell. More information regarding the title is expected at E3 which kicks off on July 14.

Rock Band 2's 80+ tracks set to be announced at E3

More details on the sequel to Rock Band have been revealed via an AP interview with Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos.

Rigopulos noted that the game will feature over 80 master tracks, including more female-fronted bands. The playlist is slated to be released at E3.

The CEO also noted that, unlike Activision's Guitar Hero World Tour, Rock Band 2 will not feature any sort of music creation. Instead, the company's stab at creation will be featured in a future title.

"We really felt like we wanted to do it right," said Rigopulos. "We're taking a radically different approach to that problem. It's something we wanted to take more time to do it right. It's actually something we're not focused on in 'Rock Band 2.' We're really focused on other areas related to the music and bringing the community together."

Going along with the theme of polishing the first iteration, Rigopulos added that Rock Band 2's peripherals will be much improved over the first batch.

"For fans interested in hardware, the second-generation peripherals are an amazing step forward from the first-generation guitar and drums. The instruments make huge strides in both fit and finish as well as features and functions."

In less than a week Electronic Arts will be showing off Rock Band 2 to the world's gaming press at this year's E3. To get your motor running a bit early, Harmonix dropped this fat fact sheet and these images on us.

First things first: If you already own Rock Band and you buy Rock Band 2 all of your songs will transfer over automatically and free o' charge.

Rock Band 2, which hits the Xbox 360 this September and the PS2, PS3 and Wii later this year, includes a number of new tweaks both to the software and hardware. Some highlights:

The new and improved drums and guitar peripherals will be compatible with the original Rock Band and original instruments will work with Rock Band 2. The new guitar will have a sturdier strum bar, quieter buttons and be wireless. The new drum kit will include a metal reinforced pedal, quieter pads, velocity sensors and... be wireless.

New Mini-Campaigns
Custom Set Lists
Online World Tour
Drum Trainer

That's right, Rock Band 2 will literally teach you how to play drums.

We weren't allowed to play with the new instruments when the game was showed off to press last month, but I did manage to grope the drum kit for a few seconds when no one was looking. The pedal looked like it would stand up to more abuse and the drums themselves had a thicker rubber like feel to them. I'm certain they would be much quieter. The guitar, well the guitar looks just kick ass.

gh3 was fun but then the last tier just got monstrously hard. Oh and fuck those boss battles, who the hell at activision thought that would be fun?

Reuters are reporting that a deal between Electronic Arts and MTV will make the Madden 09 soundtrack available in the weekly downloadable content update for Rock Band.

The nugget of info was couched in a broader report about the run-up to the 20th anniversary of the seminal sports simulation. Huge hat tip to reader Max for spotting and pointing it out to us.

Quoth Reuters:

Under the deal, "Rock Band" will feature music from the "Madden 09" soundtrack in its weekly downloadable songs update, a handful at a time, over several weeks, with each song carrying the "Madden" brand. Additionally, each soundtrack song will be available for sale via iTunes as part of a special "Madden" playlist.

Max provided a handy-dandy track list reminder (below), noting that two songs already are available as Rock Band DLC: "Inside the Fire" by Disturbed, and "Hammerhead" by The Offspring. The soundtrack:

Airbourne - Stand Up For Rock ‘N Roll
Busta Rhymes feat. Linkin Park - We Made It
Disturbed - Inside The Fire

what does overcharting mean?
making songs ridiculously hard on expert which sometimes takes the fun out of the song
like someone mentioned..the mosh part of raining blood or the god awful slipknot-before i forget chart (the bridge especially)

i found the custom chart of dragonforce ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NumLW3TZ8pk ) they had for modded ps2's way funner than the gh3 version too..the way they charted was intro was unnecessary imo

most harmonix charts are "easier" but they're way more fun and stay true to how the song is actually played on guitar

yeah, although i imagine its pretty basic for $300
still really cool
i might pick it up if its decent
you could record beats on garageband and change the sound of everything to emulate real drums if you wanted

Rock Band 2 getting cymbal-ized
GI reports Harmonix's drum kit will feature crash, ride, and high-hat add-ons; Fender, Ion partnership for LE real-instrument conversions.

The term "battle of the bands" has come to epitomize the competitive one-upmanship of Activision's Guitar Hero series and MTV Games' Rock Band franchise. While the first Harmonix-developed rhythm game under the MTV Games label won superior critical approbation thanks to the addition of drums and a karaoke element, the Guitar Hero brand name and a lower price point pushed the Neversoft-made Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock to the top of the billboard sales charts.

This year, the two franchises are again crossing axes with Guitar Hero: World Tour and Rock Band 2, and the musical arms race is heating up. Earlier this year, Activision hit its first power chord, announcing it would hop on the musical quartet wagon, adding in a five-pad (plus kick pedal) drum kit and a karaoke mic, among other substantially new features.

Today, MTV Games and Harmonix have struck back. As revealed in the latest Game Informer, the new drum kit will have more than just squishy, velocity-sensitive pads. While the standard-issue new drum kit will retain the four-pad setup of its predecessor, drumming enthusiasts will be able to purchase an additional cymbal pack. The pack includes crash, ride, and high-hat add-ons that can be plugged into the new kit and will be associated with existing colors. Because the cymbal pack will plug into expansion slots, Rock Band's original drum set will remain compatible with the game's follow-up.

For those counting, that adds up to a possible eight drum inputs, two more than World Tour and topping even the kit in Konami's Rock Revolution. Konami has taken actions of its own to counter MTV Games and Harmonix's move into the rhythm game space, claiming patent infringement and filing suit against Harmonix in a Texas court this week.

In addition to the new cymbal pack, GI reports that Harmonix and MTV Games have commissioned limited-edition instruments from Fender and Ion that will be made compatible with their rhythm game. From Fender, real Stratocasters will reportedly be stripped and then outfitted with game-input parts. The special edition Ion drum kit will feature four pads, three cymbals, and a kick pedal and will double as a fully functional electronic drum kit. Pricing information for the limited-edition bundles was not revealed.

I'm so fucking pissed. My buddies and I attempted the Endless Set on Expert tonight and were flying through it until we got to Green Grass and High Tides. Son of a FUCK!!!!! I think the best we got was 84% with me on bass and my buddy on guitar. I finally figured out that stupid ass bass line that comes in during the second solo but guy couldn't handle guitar. I try guitar. Guy can't play the bass line. WE'RE FUCKED!!!! I'm so pissed right now
