I definitely like the redesign, particularly the matte finish. It's not enough to make me sell my existing system but I'm definitely happy that the price is finally right and they can really start being competitive. This will cause both Sony and MS to pull out all the stops in the next year or so to claim the edge and we'll get to reap the benefits.

That's weird, I have 4 usb ports on my launch ps3, I didn't realize they were cutting them all down to 2. One of my favorite things about the bulky ps3 is that it uses the same power cord as a computer/monitor/etc... so I have a few laying around, but I dig that they're going back to the ps1/ps2/saturn power cord, too because I got shit tons of them as well. No point in me buying one since mine's still working fine, but this is pretty sweet for all my friends that haven't bought one yet.

This is pretty cool feature, since I just got a bravia.

The "BRAVIA Sync" feature is also new for the smaller PS3. If you're the proud owner of a BRAVIA TV, using an HDMI cable to connect the console to it will allow you to control the XMB on the TV using the PS3. Like the 80GB and 160GB models, the 120GB PS3 Slim has built-in Wi-Fi and two USB ports (sorry, Sony didn't add IR). You can also upgrade/replace the hard drive without voiding the warranty, though Sony has moved the hard drive from the side of the unit to the front for "easier access." (To remove the hard drive, you simply unscrew the screws). The one feature missing from the Slim is the ability to install another operating system (i.e., Linux)--Sony is doing away with that feature.

How are you going about doing this? Are you just downloading hi-def rips and copying them to the harddrive or is there something else involved? I'm usually up on this stuff but I haven't done my homework on this yet.

oh gotcha. i have a tb western digital external in ntfs that i haven't tried to hook up to the ps3. when i want to watch something i just transfer it from my pc or external to my 32 gb flashdrive and hook that up to the ps3 only because it's more tidy than the external.

didn't know the ps3 only recognized fat32 though. just checked my flashdrive and it is indeed fat32. interesting...i guess those movies were under 4 gb then if they went on the flash.

well, I was able to return my PS3 no problem, I found that tomorrow would have been the end of the 30 days so I caught it just in time... I did the math, and after taxes and everything the PS3 slim is really only going to save me like $30 if I pick up uncharted and killzone 2 again (they had to go back as they came with the system), assuming the slim doesn't come with any games...

still, I'd rather have the smaller, newest of the new with if I'm not going to have backward compatibility... I'm actually surprised that it's going to be $299 canadian instead of some jacked up exchange + import/everything's more expensive in canada fee... some of you near the border may want to consider a trip here to save a few bucks depending on the exchange rate...

they were open... uncharted was boxed in with the system (the 160gb uncharted pack) so they didn't care that it was open, killzone 2 was "free" but they just gave it to me with the system... store was Futureshop... I'm surprised, they're usually pretty shitty for returning stuff... They did say they had to give me the cost of killzone 2 on a gift card though because it was opened, which is lame (especially considering it was considered a freebie and wasn't included in the $450 for the pack), but I still got full price for it and the card is just going back toward the slim anyways...

also noted was the people surveyed said that they play their wii less than the other two systems so while not really relative to your question, it's still worth noting that any of the numbers may be skewed.

I've played GoWI/II a few times and plan on doing it again prior to GoWIII release. I always like beating all the previous games before and up to the new release to re-familiarize myself with the franchise and story line.

I'm a little annoyed about no BC, even though I still have my ps2 and my first ps3 didn't have it anyways... there are so many games I still play or haven't beaten yet and it's a waste of space to have both consoles... the ps2 is still a big seller though, so I guess Sony wants to squeeze as much as they can from it...

and with no BC, there's no way they can do ps2 pan games... no silent hill, no resident evil which is weird, since they have the first for ps1 but nothing else until 5), no shadow of the colossus, etc... there's a huge chunk of classic games they're going to ignore... it's dumb that I can still play ps1 games on a ps3... I just picked up Brain Dead 13 though, so I'm not complaining...

And in case you were wondering, you can also upgrade/replace the hard drive without voiding the warranty, though Sony has moved the hard drive from the side of the unit to the front for easier access. (To remove the hard drive, you simply unscrew two screws on the bottom of the Slim that are covered by a small door that snaps open and closed.) The only caveat: the Slim uses the smaller 2.5-inch drive size generally found in laptops. They're more expensive than the larger 3.5-inch hard drives that go into desktop computers.

The layout of PSN is so shitty and unintuitive. You can get demos of some PSN games, but you have to look under the demos section - it won't offer them to you if you're looking at the game under the PSN games section. Flower does not have a demo as far as I know. Echocrome does, though.

Developer Naughty Dog has claimed that adventure sequel Uncharted 2: Among Thieves would be ‘impossible’ to replicate on Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console.

i easily died over 500 times that and i got all the light seeds so it wasnt anywhere close to 12 hours. it doesnt always pop up for people and those people get pissed. hahaha. i guess cuz they have to play through the game again.

I beat batman this weekend on normal, collected all riddles, and ended with 88%... tried a few challenges but I suck at chaining combos so I'll probably never get 100%. and how the fuck are people getting 13 second completion on some of the predator rooms? bullshit...

[spoilers] I just about shit myself on the third scarecrow stage, a ps3 less than a week old, the artifacts scared the hell out of me, I thought the system died... well done rocksteady, you got me... did anyone catch the web address scarface said in that scene? I kissed it and wanted to see if it's real... all the little jokes in that bit were great...

the ending I wasn't really happy with, you saw it coming and you don't even really fight the joker... in fact you don't really fight (any main character in the game, just thier thugs, which is a bit of a letdown... that's my biggest gripe with the game... I'd say if the do a second game, have it in Gotham, have each villain have their own hideout you have to find using clues, MORE puzzles and detective work, LESS repetitive brawling, LESS detective mode (made it too easy at times, and took away from the graphics), and this time actually fight the boss after beating the underlings, one on one...

all that aside, I still loved it, it was way better than I expected and left me wanting more, it was pretty true to the batman I love so much...

Yeah I play through every game on normal first. Problem with those games is there are unlockables but you have to play the hard parts.

The only problem I had with God Mode before the clone fight was when you are pushing the guy up the slope in the cage to sacrifice him. But the clone fight, oh man, I've never lost my shit more playing a video game. Its infuriating.

I was JUST going to post that 3.0 is out now... I guess it's the 1st somewhere already... the description of changes before you download doesn't look that impressive though, added store links, you can use the right stick to fastforward video, multiple audio outs available in setup, that's it?

anyway, just reading in the aussie playstation mag, theres some news apparently no one else has heard yet. and that is, keep your original save game from uncharted, cause you can use the medals you earned in that to acquire shit in the sequel (weapons for multiplayer or something i guess, fucking sweet cause i finished it to 100%) and that theres gonna be some thing where you can make your own uncharted movies. like, you move characters around on an in-game green screen, then add your own backgrounds, and it even does lip synching based on what you're saying into the mic, can be uploaded to the net, guys if this works good it could be fuckign amazing. think of the prp movies we could do.

I've had my preorder on GoW3 since July 08. May have to switch it to collectors ed if they do the 3 bundle. Someone let me know if they say they are going to do this.

i dunno if you guys have noticed, but some of my trophy percentages have now changed since i installed 3.0

far cry 2 went from 42% to 51%

gta4 went from 57% to 67%

and thats just 2 i noticed, new value for trophies maybe?

The reason the trophy percentages have changed is that it now gives the actual % of the trophies that you’ve unlocked for the game instead of the % of the total trophy value of that game.

I wish they'd give you some control over the OS layout and functions so I can clean things up and get rid of all the crap... the new store icons need to go, I don't understand the point on having tabs for music, pics and video if all three are available in each tab anyways... also I'd love to disable the on screen display when playing videos, I don't need a play icon appearing every time I play a video, or even worse, each time a new chapter on a DVD or bluray starts... and once it's finished, how about exiting the video instead of sitting at a black screen with the pause icon? playlists never seem to work either, shouldn't a playlist actually go to the next video instead of sitting at the previously mentioned pause screen?

i wish this were true but my understanding is only the ps3 slim has the hardware to do bitstreaming. you may be mistaken since both the update and slim were announced at the same time. i'll research...

i like hot shots when you have a few people over. you can use multiple controllers or pass one (or two) around if you want.

there's different little rules you can establish for your round, like making the cup really big, hitting a tree adds strokes, can't use special shots, etc. it's really fun if you like golf games and really easy to pick up and play, even for novices.

of course if you don't like golf games then this post was of no help.
