I'm getting pretty tired of my wii too. I've already bought and sold Rayman, Super Paper Mario, Zack and Wiki, and Metriod (after only playing 11 hours of it since I bought it in like September). I just rented wario ware, excite truck, and lego star wars but those are all "ehh" games. I beat wario in less than 2 hours and by tomorrow I should be done beating star wars. Excite truck is ok but the trucks handle like shit and we can't keep them on the road.

wiimote controls are just like Excite Truck but a bit tighter. i love Excite Truck so it works for me. my roommate hates Excite Truck, switched to the classic controller after a few minutes and liked that much better.

just played battle mode for about an hour and this is definitely my favorite since the SNES one.

there are 4 tracks per cup, with 4 cups of new tracks and 4 cups of throwback tracks (32 in all). i've played through the 1st three cups of new tracks and most of them have been pretty exciting so far, with a few boring ones thrown in as always.

the only character i've unlocked so far is King Boo. there are at least 5 more secret characters. each character has a few options as far as both karts and motorcycles/scooters go. from what i've played so far, the motorcycles aren't hugely different from the karts. just a bit more squirrely/floaty. you get more air with them and you have to let off the gas a bit more when cornering.

my favorite tracks so far are Wario's Gold Mine (rickety mine cart track with steep hills), Coconut Mall (race through a mall with lots of alternate paths and Mii spectators), and Koopa Cape (racing through a river/waterfall-type area with a really cool underwater section).

ok, couple days in and i'm pretty bored of it already. i still like a bunch of the new tracks and multiplayer is a lot of fun, especially battle mode, but the different carts and bikes just don't add much variety and the reused tracks are almost all boring as fuck. playing through those cups was seriously a chore.

it also doesn't help that the game looks like shit. why the hell can't Nintendo make round things look round? everything that's supposed to be a circle looks like a fucking octagon. the game seriously doesn't look a bit better than Double Dash and that game came out 5 fucking years ago.

i've realized i don't like Mario Kart for basically the same reason i don't like Mario Party. i guess some people find the random nature fun but it's just aggravating to me. there is nothing worse than a game that punishes you for doing well. i shouldn't have to worry about getting knocked out of 1st place by an item that specifically and unavoidably targets the person in 1st place. i don't know how many times i got bumped into 3rd or 4th place by some random item right before crossing the finish line, despite dominating the entire race. that isn't a "fun challenge," it's a bad gameplay mechanic. i'm going back to playing Burnout, where when i lose it's usually because i was a shitty driver.

The whole novelty of it just seems to be dying off. I've never been into the Smash Bros. series, and I don't think I have finsihed a Zelda game all the way through since Link to the Past. And aside from Galaxy, Mario Kart was the only thing I was holding my hopes onto for being a reason to consider getting one, but it doesn't sound like it. As much as everyone loves to say how awesome the Wii is, I think the best thing Nintendo has put out since the Gamecube is the DS.

Another gripe about the game, too many weapons seem to be auto hits. You get pummeled wile in first place, blue shells, pows, red shells, squids. It also makes it harder to catch up with all the hit everyone auto hit weapons.

online play is less cheap than grand prix against all computer. plus, when you get to 150cc, you wont be in 1st constantly, so it isnt that bad. 50cc, you get pummeled non stop. im in the midst of gold staring all the 150cc cups but its a bitch.

i still dont get the point system online. theres been multiple times where i had won the race and 2nd and 3rd get more points than me. i dont even bother with battle mode cuz of the lame team system.

this could be the case. but the majority of people are all under 6000. im close to 8000 now but when i race with everyone under 6000, im not going to get shit point wise in first. of course if i lose one race will lose over 100 points. lame. 15000 unlocks something (i think an outfit) and its going to take a long ass time to get that high.

mostly by getting first in every race. although i have already gotten 3rd in one race and 1st in all the others and still get a gold star. also it depends on how fast you finish the track. i only need to gold star 1 track on 150cc and 2 or 3 on mirror and im done.

yes. two people can use the same wii and play against 10 other CPU's or friends. if you ever notice when youre racing that two people have the same exact mii, thats two players on the same wii

different characters get unlocked when you accomplish certain things. your mii becomes selectable once you clear all 8 cups in 50cc (i think) as for his chariot, its just an unlockable kart. there are 6 unlockable karts and 6 unlockable bikes (2 for each weight class). the blue falcon from f-zero is actually one of the karts you can unlock. just google "mario kart wii unlockables" and im sure some website will come up.

as for the prp game, we can set a time and someone can create a room (preferably the person who has the fastest connection. anyone with FiOS?) and we would all join that room and play each other. those races wont affect your VR rating either. so when you guys shank me with blue shells at the finish line and i finished 8th, i wont lose 250 points. hahaha.

also you can join in on any game your friend is in as long as there is a spot. we can all play on a non private race but that would affect your VR rating.

if youre just doing a wheelie, youll still spin out. you have to do it right as it hits. i just keep jamming the up button and it works for me everytime. might be harder to do with the wheel. if youll notice, when a pow block hits, every one that it hit is spinning out except for me.

A couple things, the tournament mode was disappointing. I was hoping for a god honest tournament. I can't get the timing for the boost start down, and I don't understand the little blue wind random speed up.

I thought I was getting good with the wheel, but when I switch to the nunchuck controls its infinitly more responsive so if I'm feeling at all competitive I have to play with the nunchuck, but then I feel like a dick because everyone else is playing with the wheel but I can't switch controlers while on WFC so I have to disconnect and come back...

When using the wheel I think I am worse off with the gold mushroom, I always end up off the course or stuck in a corner with it.

i tried manual on time trials where i raced my own ghost and my automatic ghost smoked my ass big time. im just so used to automatically drifting. i know i bumped your kart off the track at least once and that one finished on peach beach where i bumped you and got 3rd, i was crackin up. there are differences in the classes though. small (light weight, fast acceleration, good handling, low top speed), medium (all around average), large (slow acceleration, fast top speed, heavy weight, semi bad handling). when i was funky kong and you were koopa, i could bump you while racing and really throw you off course because im so much heavier than you.

i dont understand that blue wind speed up either. it seems like it always comes when you pass a lot of people real quick or are bumping a lot. ive never even tried to use the wheel. fuck that. im usually 1 of maybe 2 people in every race that doesnt have that wheel by them. the boost start happens when you start gasing with like 1.75 to 1.5 seconds till the green light goes off. if you do it right when you see 2, youll burn out. gotta wait a tiny bit after seeing the 2.

yeah, 8-bit's right - for the starting boost, i always press accelerate when it's on the 2 - not exactly when it clicks over to 2, but shortly before it clicks over to 1. i nail it every time.

the blue wind streaks are when you're drafting... you're following closely behind someone and they're catching the wind for you, so you get a light speed boost. apparently if you do it long enough it will give you a full boost.

naw you won fair and square. i wouldnt ever let anyone win. im cut throat. hahaha. i got smacked with items and just couldnt catch you at the end. thats why i hate the short courses. its anyones game on those things, couple bad items and youre toast. before i joined your game, i came in last place (out of 9 people) on the race before and i lost 250 points. i gotta win at least 9 races to get 250 points now. so i tend to pick the longer courses so i can get an actual lead so WHEN i get blue shelled i can still maintain some what of a gap between myself and 2nd. rainbow road and warios gold mine are my tracks.

lost winds is a pretty cool game for what its worth. short, but very scenic and the wind control is done pretty well.

so Boom Blox is fucking awesome and insanely addictive. easily one of the best multiplayer games for the system, and the single-player game isn't too shabby either.

just beat lost winds tonight as well. such a great little game. i really hope they make a full disc game out of this in the future, but im not sure if they will since they are already making lost winds 2 for wii ware.

if you like puzzle games at all you should get sucked right in. i started playing it before work the other day with the intention of trying it out for like 10 minutes and ended up calling in late. start with the tutorial and then play through the "explore" mode before you do the adventure stuff, that way you'll have a good grasp of the physics and what everything does.

the NTSC version i got off blackcats when the game first leaked worked fine for me once Wiikey updated their firmware, but i know a lot of other (mostly older) chips were having detection issues. i think any NTSC version you find should work with d2c, though. they're definitely out there.

there's a new NTSC version that just went up on blackcats that apparently overrides detection of all modchips but i don't know where else you would find it for download.

I pre-ordered 2 from Amazon. One to keep and one to sell (assuming they stay sold out and I can make a little money). My wife is really excited about it and has been telling people at her work about it. I think it will be fun. I hope they actually release more games for use with the board though.


I also just bought Boom Blox. The wife and I played through about 8 or 9 levels against each other and it was really fun.
